A "Bloodless Coup"? (Is Obama imitating Hugo Chavez?)
Right Wing News ^ | May 1, 2009 | Melissa Clouthier

Watching what President Barack Obama is doing with the country makes me think of Venezuela under Chavez. Is it any wonder they're buddies? They certainly have enough commonalities that many people see the two together in heart, mind, and action:

But times have changed and so have strategies. Saul Alinsky, radical of the '60s, author of "Rules for Radicals" who was all about taking power, suggested that you target your opposition, make it personal and destroy him. Recent decades have seen this play out in the demonization and ruination of a host of people. They weren't killed, but they were in essence destroyed so that no one in the mainstream culture would ever again listen to or heed their advice. Richard Nixon ... Oliver North ... Clarence Thomas ... Dick Cheney ... Tom DeLay ... George W. Bush ... Sarah Palin. Have Americans stopped to think that these destroyed people are all on the political right? Have they noticed that Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank still walk among us, exercising influence, with whatever reputations they have in tact?

Yes, times have changed. Under the careful guidance of Fidel Castro, the driving force behind the Sao Paulo Forum, a new method of gaining power has emerged: 1) Get elected through the system, 2) change the constitution, 3) corrupt the elections 4) nationalize banks and industry and 5) punish your opposition. A leader needs to make just a few bold moves in each category so that all will get the message. According to Alejandro Esclusa, the former Venezuelan presidential candidate who has been tried on several occasions for his opposition to Hugo Chavez, this insidious method of instilling a totalitarian regime is now working in 17 Latin American countries.

"It would seem that the changes that started in Venezuela in the last decade of the 20th century have begun to reach North America," Hugo Chavez said just last week even as he was jailing opposition mayors in at least three cities.

And President Obama has a 90% approval rating with Democrats. The statist impulse is strong on the other side. And they don't mind that the President of ostensibly all the people demonizes those who go to Tea Parties. Hugo Chavez doesn't like opposition either.

First, they came for speech, then they came for banks, then they came for the auto industry, then they came for the internet, now they come for health care. And before it's all over, the state owns you. Every part of your existence is subsumed to the state.

I suggested boycotting Tv and cancelling cable and sat TV using free internet TV. I was attacked. The newspapers are dying. His power is TV. TV knows people are hooked like fools.

BTW he is a moving a LOT faster than Chavez.

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."

This guy is worse than chavez. chavez did not take over the auto industry, the banking industry, the insurance industry and the health care industry.
He reminds me of Putin without balls.

Don’t even think that. First of all, we would get Biden/Hillary. not much different. On the other side my idea of a nightmare is this guy becoming a martyr.

This is exactly what we need. Dry up TV. Cut off the money by boycotting the sponsor's.

Like I’ve said before, millions of Americans who voted for Zero heard “change” and thought, “Yeah, we do need a change from Bush,” and who could blame them after the vicious beatings he took, daily, in the MSM. However, when Zero said, “change”, what HE meant was, “revolution.” I’ll believe that til my dying day.

” 2) change the constitution”

I haven’t studied Venezuela, but I read the news. It seems to me every time I read about Chavez and the constitution it is changing via referrendum. That is more like many states than it is our federal Constitution. (and by the way look at the mess most state constitutions have become because of referrendums).

Here we have these pesky states that have to ammend it. There are a lot of factors at play that make it harder to get them to go along. The most obvious problem is right leaning states won’t give in to a communist. The second problem is that those in power in states will not give it up freely. They will require payback, but only so many of them can be governors. Too many people want to retain their power.

The chilling thing is what the feds are trying to pull with the states and the “stimulus” money. California is being threatened. I’m sure that is act 1. Maybe they will threaten all fed funding if a state doesn’t vote to ammend, but I just can’t see it happening smoothly. There is a higher probability of some states threatening to secede if they get pushed and shoved.

Obama is making one very big mistake: he's not trying to get the military on his side. Hugo Chavez did and that aided him greatly.
