Here comes California's May 19 Rebellion
Examiner ^ | 5/10/09 | Hugh Hewitt

California voters head to the polls next week with predictions of doom echoing in their ears if they decline to endorse the massive tax hikes prescribed for them by big Democratic majorities in the statehouse, Arnold and a handful of now ruined-politically Republican legislators.

"Shrill" doesn't begin to describe the campaign designed to stampede the Golden State electorate. The latest ad has a weary, soot-covered fire-fighter urging a yes vote on the tax hike. The message is clear: Vote no and your homes will burn down.

Not even this sort of fear-mongering is moving the needle towards "yes" on the massive tax surge on next week's ballot as poll after poll shows all the key measures put forward by the tax-and-spend-and tax-again crowd failing badly.

Arnold is doing his best to summon up the old magic but his appeal long ago hit Gray Davis-levels. Arnold was elected to slash taxes and spending, and somehow he confused that mandate with orders to throw in with the public employee unions. Too bad. He could have been a contender.

The GOP "leaders" who signed on to this roadmap to ruin have been dumped by their caucuses, and go down in California history as the biggest marks to have ever had a seat at the poker game known as the "Big Five" negotiations wherein the governor and the top Republicans and Democrats in the State Assembly and Senate hash out budget matters.

If the taxes proposals fail, what does CA do next? Backdoor the taxes? Beg for more federal money?

Declare bankruptcy and tell the union thugs to go pound sand.

They will get a judge to impose it.

If not....the state / federal black robes (judges) have "gone wild",
for far too long
.....bad laws / bad judges.

The voters will deliver the message. The corrupt rulers, the special interests and the unions, reinforced by the courts, will find a way to ignore it or overturn it. Then we will see what the voters will do.

They can pass resolutions out their ears but can’t do squat about those Rats in Sacramento. Sickening.

I prefer a pitchfork revolution to oust the worthless bastards in Sacramento and start over.

The first logical step would indeed be massive downsizing in the state government outside of public safety and education.

See, this is what I dislike about Hewitt. This is an excellent article but it completely ignores the elephant in the room. Hewitt has a habit of doing this. C'mon Hugh - get to the root cause of why CA is bankrupt. I can name four off the top of my head:

(1) Illegals
(2) Children of Illegals
(3) state public unions
(4) Bloated state government

Hugh was an illegal alien coddler ala Medved before Mitt started talking tough on illegals in the primary. Then he did a 180 so fast I got whiplash. Maybe he can revise A Mormon in the Whitehouse for 2012. LOL

I love Hugh’s show, but he’s got a tin ear for Politics and doesn’t know squat about football.

“Declare bankruptcy and tell the union thugs to go pound sand. “

Somehow I don’t see that happening. They aren’t even allowed to lower union wagers without losing their porkulus money. Breaking the union by bankruptcy would probably mean losing all federal money.

Well they could cut spending or sell assets.

“This is an excellent article but it completely ignores the elephant in the room. “

This is common in all media now.

Last week, I saw article after article about 0bama going after the companies “benefiting” from offshoring. I didn’t see any talking about why companies offshored in the first place. Fix that problem and the others would fall into line.

Is that possible? State or federal judge(s)? What are the mechanism(s) to do this?

“Well they could cut spending or sell assets.”

Common sense dictates that this is a good move, therefore I don’t think it will happen.

I have noticed that no one has mentioned sending the illegals home.

A side question on the topic of CA. I read Liberty and Tyranny recently. It seems like the illegals are destroying the health care system of CA, in a large part due to the ease of entry through emergency rooms. Can hospitals close ER’s or is that dictated by the state?

Tax Revolt. If the public votes it down and a judge shoves it down the voters throat, no way in Hell should the people pay.

Getting rid of those boards, commissions, and such that pay unemployed political hacks and stalwarts six-figure incomes could easily save enough to hire 1,700 firefighters. IMO.
