Nationwide ammo shortage affecting local dealers_(all sold out)

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The country has seen an increase demand in ammunition in the last few months, and some say it's due to the fact that Obama is now in office, and many fear stricter gun control is on its way.

More gun control has always been feared by those who use guns for hunting, shooting and just wanting to have the right to protect themselves against intruders.

There was a rise in gun sales a few months back, and now we are seeing a rise in ammunition sales.

Stores can't even keep it on their shelves, and manufacturers have put businesses on waiting lists because they just cant keep up.

The Roseburg Gun Shop is not the only store in town having trouble keeping ammo in stock.

isnt it funny that while most people are cutting back on everything theyre buying, yet people are buying guns and ammo like it aint gonna be made anymore?

What do they know..or think?

That is because it probably isnt going to be made any more. Barry is rapidly converting us to Venezuela.

Never have gotten into reloading, I just don’t shoot enough to justify getting set up. But I guess primers are the toughest thing right now so you are fortunate.

Anyone who thinks that they are going to come into the heartland and storm over people are going to be walking into D-Day 2. People here in No Mans Land, are prepared, arms wise of course, but most importantly mentally. They are sick and tired of being robbed by the Government. Any government employees that come into this area thinking that they are going to intimidate these people will have just bitten off way more than they are able to chew. We still have several small local dealers who seem to be able to get plenty of ammo, but I regularly witness people buying $3000 to $4000 worth of ammo at a time..........Bring it on Barry.

These shortage explanations are BULL. How did we EVER win WWII if we couldn’t produce more ammo than THIS? After 65 years and over double the population, we produce LESS ammo? UH-UH! It IS a Conspiracy!

The story doesn't paint gun & ammo buyers as a bunch of racist rednecks, but that wouldn't play well in Roseburg. Places the blame where it belongs - on 0bama. And that plays just fine there I reckon.

Lindsey Kovacevich isn't a hometown girl either, coming from SoCal by way of Colorado. She was a Denver Nuggets cheerleader though.

I received an email alert from “Ammoman” at 7:05PM stating that they had just gotten in some 5.56mm 55gr ammunition.

I got home from work at about 8:00pm and checked my mail.

Ammoman was already out...

I’ve seen some retailers state flat out that they don’t expect to have their next shipments until after September.

I want to take a Suarez close range gunfighting class in Winchester virginia in Oct. I want to use my 1911 in it, but I need 500 rounds of ball. If I cant get it, Im gonna have to carry my walther P99 9mm, for which I have plenty of magazines.

That's enough reason right there to buy a CZ-52 for under 200 bucks. It's even a SA like your 1911. I just bought a 1,224 round spam can of 7.62X25 hardball for 150, delivered.

I paid 28 bucks per box

That's a good price right now. For defensive .40 S&W in a gun shop or sporting goods store its over a buck a round where I live. I bought several 50 round boxes of .40 JHP at a gun show last weekend for $33.00 each and actually felt like I was getting a good deal.

Cheaper than Dirt has the highest online prices I’ve seen.

Reminds me of a joke...

At the height of the Soviet Union, a Russian walks into a butcher's shop.
R: "I see you are selling pork chops at 5 rubles a pound."
B: "Yes, I am, would you like some?"
R: "The butcher across the street is selling them for 2 rubles a pound! Why is your price so high?"
B: "If he has what you want at a price you like, buy your pork chops there."
R: "But he doesn't have any pork chops."
B: "Well, my pork chops are 5 rubles a pound. When I don't have any more, I'll sell them for 2 rubles a pound."

People are converting their cash into ammo.
At vaguely $0.50/round, that’s going to take a lot of ammo to satisfy demand.

Before this run, the USA was producing something on the order of 10 billion rounds per year. That meets demand so long as active consumers are buying roughly $100 worth per month (SWAG ballpark guess). Now we’ve got people practically converting their paychecks directly into lead/copper/brass, so demand is far outstripping supply. Even in WWII we didn’t have such demand (a war PLUS massive personal hoarding).

BTW: I was in the closest gunshop yesterday. Their shelves were full and there were a dozen cases of ammo on the floor. The stuff is being produced and shipped, it’s just selling out quick.

“It never hurts to stick some extra ammo in that short-term survival kit that you’re supposed to have anyway, and if things ever do get really bad, any caliber bullet, rifle round or shotgun shell makes excellent hard currency...”

I agree. The black market will thrive once the feds lock down ammo. Any old ammo will be ok to have as it can be traded for other types.

I really wish I could find a big airtight, waterproof locker to buy $100k worth and bury out somewhere nobody can find it.

Would be my 401k.

“isnt it funny that while most people are cutting back on everything theyre buying, yet people are buying guns and ammo like it aint gonna be made anymore?”\

I think that people in hard times are more keen to perceive value. Look at Walmart - they are doing great right now. Ammo is being perceived as having value, hence the runup.

I think it’s great that you are putting out the word on the CZ52 & 7.62X25 Tok.

I’ve seriously considered this option but have hesitated because of it’s limited application. What I mean is that there is only the CZ52 that can use the ammo.

Sure, you can find a semi-auto PPSh everynow and again on Gunbroker for $2K- but I wish there were a mass produced economical carbine - similar to Kel-tec’s Sub2000 for $250 or less.

This would make this Tok round so much more versatile.

I would LOVE to see a carbine in that round. It would be fairly easy to rejigger a 9mm carbine for it.

But it’s still a great buy, if for no other reason than the cost of practice rounds. I just can’t afford to pop enough 9mm/40/45, not at today’s costs, and I’m not a reloader.

But at under 12 cents a pop, I can afford to shoot the CZ and stay sharp on all pistols.

Before this run, the USA was producing something on the order of 10 billion rounds per year.

Where did you get that number?

The quote I had heard was "Two to three billion rounds per year".
