Radio Rage (Seething Conservatives update)
Salon ^ | May 13, 2009 | Camille Paglia

Posted on 05/13/2009 6:41:17 AM PDT by MuttTheHoople

May 13, 2009 | In John Frankenheimer's taut 1964 film, "Seven Days in May," the Joint Chiefs of Staff, appalled at a disarmament treaty with the Soviet Union, plot a coup d'état to remove the president whom they regard as too soft and naive about the evil of America's enemies. The screenplay by Rod Serling (based on a 1962 novel by Fletcher Knebel and Charles W. Bailey II) is filled with passionate lines that seem right out of today's talk radio -- "intellectual dilettantes" versus patriotism; America's loss of "greatness"; the superiority of military experience to civilian judgment and governance.

It is funny because liberals can take to the streets with ridiculously extremist (shrill) signs and no one in the MSM would characterize them this way. Paglia makes one small reference to how those on the left (including many in the media) treated President Bush but it obviously doesn’t concern her very much yet she claims that one instance of a talk-show whereas Mark Davis, subbing for Rush Limbaugh laughs while talking about comments by CBS sportscaster David Feherty all of sudden constitute a danger when combined with a fictional novel.

The fact is that her column on this issue is pure fiction. She is inventing the danger in order to smear conservative talk radio. She gives no quote at all from Mark Davis to back up her claims which says a lot about her tactics here.

I am for secession over losing my life savings, being unprotected against radicals developing nuclear weapons as we dismantle ours, over sending my children to serve as brownshirts to march against fellow Americans, over giving away the freedoms our soldiers died for.

Secession yes - over allowing a president and his minions to steal the funds of the American treasury and redistribute or not to his fellow radicals, thugs, foreign allies who seek to mine the wealth of America and the American taxpayer.

Who says I have to pay for abortion worldwide, pay to give Obama a checkbook to utterly undermine America. Pay to allow him to destroy the healthcare of America and instill euthansia as a means to lower costs?

And she thinks the American public is so dumb as not to see what the left and Obama are doing to this country? How many of his “changes” are being voted on?

Poor Paglia, she must have gotten plenty of blowback from her article defending the right.

This is her lame attempt at atonement.

Blech.

What will you do when 0 succeeds in censoring talk radio? Do you have a social support network? Have you gotten involved with Glen Beck’s 912 project or the Tea Parties?

Yawn, the left (and its friends on the supposed right) did this to Rush when Clinton took office.

It is a coordinated attack...to defang any criticism of Hussein.

Commie propaganda and its usful idiots.

There 18 days left in May. Who knows what will happen.

"Rabidly Bush-bashing Democrats shouldn't have done it to the last president either, but that's no excuse for conservatives, who claim to revere our institutions, to play schoolyard tit for tat."

Minimally after the past eight years? For any single Leftist to point out what was said above, then try using "our Institutions" to run interference for them is beyond pathetic, it's contemptible. Again. Chutzpah beyond mere words.

Proves Leftist(s) deliberately knew what they were doing, to who and when of course. Only this time --& perhaps for the first time, ever-- they're acknowledging the twisted behavior with their own words.
How refreshing, as well as Pyrrhic.

Of course *now* since they'd like to hide behind those Institutions, they expect us to STF up while they revere 'em. LOL

After 8 years of Bush-bashing, it’s too late for Paglia to whine that conservatives should be above “schoolyard tit-for-tat”. Particularly since the Left is STILL attacking Republicans. It’s on.

I agree with Paglia — Mark Davis IS a “glib horse’s ass.” HOWEVER, she misrepresents his bit on CBS sportscaster David Feherty. Davis does NOT laugh and does NOT express any approval of the quote from Feherty.

Listen to the clip: Davis may be a horse’s ass, but Paglia is a lying POS.

Hannity for one is like listening to a broken cd. I am told he appeals to the “younger set”. They must require massive repetition to get anything stuck into their young gords full of mush.

Savage = shrill. Levin = good old fashioned rants. I love Levin on a tear. Savage not so much.

There's nothing easier than telling the guy you just beat that he should forget the depths you plumbed to do so.

If you have a few hours, scroll through Malkin’s “Bush Derangement Syndrome” archive.

The UnAmerican Democrat Party spent the last eight years engaged in a disgusting orgy of divisive political hatred and now they lecture Rush to play nice?

When we asked them to unite for the country it was in the course of a shooting war with an enemy who would like to kill us all. And they told us to stuff it.

Go Rush!

ANYTIME someone uses a fictitious event to draw parallels to, that makes me highly suspicious.

I suppose next you'll be disputing the validity of comparing the current political situation with the dilemma faced by Capt. Kirk in that classic Star Trek episode.

Regards,

Good point! Being an old phart myself, I forget about what is required to beat an idea into a thick young skull.

“The sepulchral, doom-obsessed and megalomaniacal Dick Cheney’s self-intrusion into the news last weekend was a nice demonstration of just what a fresh new breeze Obama represents in Washington.”

Is she not guilty of the same hyperbolic bomb-throwing that she accuses the right of ?!?!?

“stealth socialist”?

Wrong, he’s a blatant, anti-western socialist.

I thought the discussion here was about talk radio. Of course I could have been wrong.

I can't listen to Hannity. If I do listen, within a half hour, I'm talking like a N’Yawker.

My post quotes Paglia’s article about radio, which is the article that was posted for discussion.

So, yes you were right, in that you were wrong.
