Out-of-Wedlock Birthrates Are Soaring, U.S. Reports
New York Times ^ | May 13, 2009 | Gardiner Harris

Unmarried mothers gave birth to 4 out of every 10 babies born in the United States in 2007, a share that is increasing rapidly both here and abroad, according to government figures released Wednesday.

Before 1970, most unmarried mothers were teenagers. But in recent years the birthrate among unmarried women in their 20s and 30s has soared — rising 34 percent since 2002, for example, in women ages 30 to 34. In 2007, women in their 20s had 60 percent of all babies born out of wedlock, teenagers had 23 percent and women 30 and older had 17 percent.

Much of the increase in unmarried births has occurred among parents who are living together but are not married, cohabitation arrangements that tend to be less stable than marriages, studies show.

The pattern has been particularly pronounced among Hispanic women, climbing 20 percent from 2002 to 2006, the most recent year for which racial breakdowns are available. Eleven percent of unmarried Hispanic women had a baby in 2006, compared with 7 percent of unmarried black women and 3 percent of unmarried white women, according to government data drawn from birth certificates.

Titled “Changing Patterns of Nonmarital Childbearing in the United States,” the report was released by the National Center for Health Statistics, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Out-of-wedlock births are also rising in much of the industrialized world: in Iceland, 66 percent of children are born to unmarried mothers; in Sweden, the share is 55 percent. (In other societies, though, the phenomenon remains rare — just 2 percent in Japan, for example.)

When two people have intimate relations there is always the possibility of a child being created out of that.
If a man doesn’t want children, he needs to put forth the extra precaution to ensure that it doesn’t happen.

Anything less than that is pure irresponsibility.

“When two people have intimate relations there is always the possibility of a child being created out of that.

What about the woman?

That is the question you dont want to answer.

In my many previous posts I have already rebuffed your intellectual dishonesty.

......

1. Women already have more forms of birth control than men.
2. Woman have abortion or adoption men do not.
3. Why aren’t men insisting on men using birth control?
4. We have been beating up men for generations and the problem is worse than ever before, thus we should leave men alone and hold women solely responsible for their choices.

“Anything less than that is pure irresponsibility.”

Again so where is the woman’s responsibility? It takes two to have sex, but only the woman gets to decide on parenthood.

How fair is that?

Not fair at all if you have any honesty.

The difference is the woman inherently has taken responsibility by raising the child. She doesn’t get to just walk away from it like the man is able to.

(I haven’t insulted you, I’ve asked questions, I’d appreciate you not taking this to the insult level.)

“The difference is the woman inherently has taken responsibility by raising the child.”

She most certainly has not. She has been most irresponsible by forcing her choice on a man by not asking his permission. Then she forces men to pay for her choice and forcing society to pay for her choice.

How is that responsible?

“She doesn’t get to just walk away from it like the man is able to.”

So what is adoption? Abortion? .... You got it they are “women’s” choices...not men’s.

You are wrong again and again.

(I haven’t insulted you, I’ve asked questions, I’d appreciate you not taking this to the insult level.)

You are being insulting by asking questions, then ignoring my answers, not acknowledging my points, and then asking the same questions over again.

Here is a direct question for you.

Are you a woman?

Take away the financial rewards and we’ll see a decrease.

Um, they’re choosing to be referred to as HISPANICS so you can knock off the white guilt or whatever the hell your problem is.

I agree with some of what you say but that attitude does no one, including yourself, any good.

Nothing worse than a wimpy man, imo.

Our society, and our govt., usually sides with the female/mother now. I saw it happen to my oldest brother during his divorce and custody battle. Unfortunately, he gave up and became bitter. Fortunately, years later, his sons finally saw the light and they now have a relationship with their Dad. One was going through the same thing with his divorce and custody, and fought back. And won.

As much as I agree with what you’ve posted in this thread, you go and say something so immature and stupid that it sorta kills the whole argument.

“Note how conservative women begin talking like liberals when the issue of male happiness is brought up.”

Broad brush there, huh. A qualifier, “some” conservative women, would probably be a good idea.

“the men who are ‘anger’, ‘suffering’ and ‘bitter’ are those who are, in some way, married or divorced.”

I’m thinking the angry, suffering, bitter women are also those you are unhappily married or divorced. Notice how happy people, men and women, married or not, tend not to be angry and bitter?

“never find women attack their own.” LMAO! Women are the worst when it comes to attacking their own. Or rather, angry, unhappy, bitter women tend to attack other women.

” there are no instances where a woman makes a man’s life financially healthier.” Beg to differ here. I know for a fact I made my husband’s life financially healthier when we were first married and then almost 20 yrs later. He’s the primary paycheck but if it weren’t for me (or rather my parents), we wouldn’t have been able to buy our first house or later, this one. Or take the vacations we’ve been able to take.

And, we wouldn’t have what we have now, what he continues to work his ass off for, if it weren’t for him. Not just financially but all around. It’s called “marriage.” A partnership between two people. Some of us do make it work and are happy.

For real? I’m pretty sure the men knew exactly what they were doing.

So if men “freak out” because of the responsibilities, they ain’t all that “manly.” Men do what needs to be done and the same goes for women. It’s called being an adult.

Most men I know, who have gone through divorce, have suffered financially as well as emotionally. Same has happened to women I know.

My oldest brother lost everything he worked so hard for...he got royally screwed. To this day, 20+ years later, he’s still supporting his ex financially with alimony (and he ain’t rich, he was a teacher), health care, prescription card, and life insurance. His kids are in their late 30s, early 40s. He’s still paying all of the above and until they reached 18, he also paid child support even though they lived with him.

He’s bitter but refuses to see how some of it was his own fault (or maybe he does and that just makes it worse). He didn’t fight it.

Men and women suffer from divorce and if there are kids involved they suffer the worst.

Agreed. I am consistently surprised at the number of "conservatives" who sound like liberals.

These guys are talking right out of the feminist playbook, simply substituting man for woman. That there are inequities are true, but rejecting marriage (a tradition that exists across all successful societies) is absurd and patently Leftist.

Marriage works, if you work. Just like anything else.

Certainly not. I simply state that women have just as much responsibility and stop leaving the birth control to men.

Knowing the place of the Church in most Hispanics' life, I don't think so.

You would be wrong.

Hispanic Family Values?

"But it’s the fertility surge among unwed Hispanics that should worry policymakers. Hispanic women have the highest unmarried birthrate in the country—over three times that of whites and Asians, and nearly one and a half times that of black women, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Every 1,000 unmarried Hispanic women bore 92 children in 2003 (the latest year for which data exist), compared with 28 children for every 1,000 unmarried white women, 22 for every 1,000 unmarried Asian women, and 66 for every 1,000 unmarried black women. Forty-five percent of all Hispanic births occur outside of marriage, compared with 24 percent of white births and 15 percent of Asian births. Only the percentage of black out-of-wedlock births—68 percent—exceeds the Hispanic rate. But the black population is not going to triple over the next few decades."

Well, I guess it would have been more accurate to say, "Knowing the place of the Church in the life of most Hispanics I know, I don't think so."

Apparently (and sadly) the sample I have is not representative of the population as a whole.

Right! For the whole industry....lawyers, councilors, judges, caseworkers, etc.... as well as the mercenary mommies.

We are already holding men accountable.

So the only missing link is not holding the mom accountable for her post conception choices.

“To this day, 20+ years later, he’s still supporting his ex financially with alimony...”

Yeah can you imagine that injustice?

Talk about traditions that need to be done away with....

A comedian said somthing along the lines of t..... “we give alimony to women because they are used to having the man pay for everything... well I am used to having the woman commit sex acts...so I’ll pay her alimony and in return she comes over 3 times a week and does her whorish best.”

Imagine how that would fly?

It would be fair but alas that not what any of this is about.
