The little girl flung from a minivan yesterday morning in west Omaha has died, according to the Omaha Police Department.
Josie Bluhm, 4, was in a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country driven by her mother when the crash occurred. Her mother's minivan was southbound on 180th Street about 7:25 a.m. Tuesday when a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup driven west on West Center Road by Eleazar Rangel-Ochoa, 27, ran a red light and slammed into it, authorities said.
Josie was the most severely hurt of those injured in the crash. She suffered brain hemorrhaging and was eventually declared brain dead. Life support was withdrawn, and she died of her injuries at 5:50 p.m. today, police said.
Two other children in the minivan, Cayden Bluhm, 5, and Reagan Bluhm, 1, were, like Josie, taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center after the crash. Cayden remained in serious condition, and Reagan was treated and released. The condition of their mother, Jayme Bluhm, 32, has been upgraded from serious to fair.
Rangel-Ochoa, whom police arrested after he was treated for his injuries, remained in jail today, accused of driving with a suspended license. He is not in the U.S. legally, according to police; they did not know his country of origin.
Authorities said Rangel-Ochoa's license had been suspended and revoked numerous times for offenses ranging from failure to complete driver improvement classes to driving under the influence. In 2003 his driver's license was revoked for 15 years following a conviction for third-offense DUI. He now will face a charge of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide, Sgt. Doug Klein said in a police press release.
An incredible tragedy, made more so by the fact these children weren’t in car seats as well.
There are no words to say about this insanity that we see ourselves living in daily. Such a tragic tragic event that makes my heart fill with anger. My soul weeps for this country.
This is so tragic it is painful.
Why wasn’t she in a car seat? Will the mother be charged? I ask because in many states the driver will be charged if the child is not in a car seat.
almost the most useless and senseless way I can think of to die
at the hands of a serial drunk driving unrepentant illegal immigrant whose punishment will probably be a free ticket home

And, as aspecial reward, He'll be released without conviction and given citizenship and a welfare check from Obama.
I had not heard that about the kids not being in car seats. Where was that reported? Thank you.

He was here at least since 2003 and yet not one judge turned over this illegal alien to ICE. Disgusting. Every judge and every LE department has blood on their hands. Yes, the kids should have been in carseats but the accident didn't have to happen.
Please buckle your children and yourself in. It does not matter if you are being exceptionally careful, it is the drunk, illegal alien in the other vehicle that can cause the accident.
Well of course. It's all her mothers fault because she didn't have them in freakin' cheap plastic car seats.
How dare they even mention this poor illegal immigrant who blew a red light while taking a swig from his whiskey bottle.
I am sorry then for the duplicate; I DID search on this.
From the updated WOWT report--see previous posts
Obviously, he DIDN"T HAVE ONE!!!!
from article: “Rangel-Ochoa, whom police arrested after he was treated for his injuries, remained in jail today, accused of driving with a suspended license. He is not in the U.S. legally, according to police; they did not know his country of origin.

Nevadan: When I read paragraphs like the two above I nearly lose all hope for our country. In addition to the fact that:
1. He’s an illegal
2. He’s had several traffic violations as well as DUI offenses
Now, we’re told, he will face “a charge of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide”. Excuse me?? A MISDEMEANOR?? I am utterly at a loss for words at how to even respond to all this insanity.
I’ve said over and over, those little plastic half seats seem much more dangerous to me than actual seats with belts.
I’m not sure if that was what she was in (or rather “on”) but I refused to put my daughters in them. They are pushed and pushed big time. Laws enacted about “booster seats until 8” Even Disney is in on it. To me, a shoulder harness in a regular seat, with the brace that protects their little spleens, seem much safer.
If the seat slides, the kid is not protected by the harness strapping them in. IMO
I Know, it's so DAMN MADDENING!! Makes me want to grab my --- and go ---- a ---- in that useless piece of ----'s ----.
My wife's vehicle was t-boned by a full-sized work truck doing about 55 mph.
Two major differences: My wife was driving a Ford Expedition and everyone was buckled in. No one had any injuries beyond a seat-belt bruise. It would have been very easy for things to be VERY different.
