We should bomb their nuclear weapons sites in a manner that spills their refined nuclear materials killing their nuclear scientists and making the areas around those sites uninhabitable for 10 thousand or so years. In 1979 there was still a USSR. After the Evil Empire fell apart, the mullahcracy still wouldn’t have been easy to take down due to lack of a staging area, but of course would have been a great idea. One way to have built the staging area would have been to remove Saddam Hussein after expelling Iraq from Kuwait. Nice job, Bush Sr. ;’) Snuffing Putin would have been a good idea somewhere in the post-USSR timeframe. Like today or tomorrow, for example.
