Barack Obama speaks at Notre Dame, calls for 'fair-minded words' (Barf)

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—President Barack Obama confronted the issue of abortion head on Sunday at Notre Dame, acknowledging that differences over the issue are largely irreconcilable but issuing a plea to those on both sides to tone down harsh rhetoric and search for “common ground” he believes is possible.

“I do not suggest that the debate surrounding abortion can or should go away,” Obama said. “No matter how much we may want to fudge it – indeed, while we know that the views of most Americans on the subject are complex and even contradictory – the fact is that at some level, the views of the two camps are irreconcilable,” he told graduates.

“Each side will continue to make its case to the public with passion and conviction. But surely we can do so without reducing those with differing views to caricature.”

Obama’s 20-minute commencement address marked his most direct remarks on abortion as president – and he delivered them at the nation’s flagship Catholic university, where his appearance sparked protests. But while he often drew on his personal experiences to make his points and highlight his respect for Catholicism, Obama never substantively addressed why he believes a woman has the right to abortion.

Still, it wasn’t long into his speech before Obama touched on the issue that has defined his commencement invitation. He asked in a rhetorical way – a constitutional law professor in him coming out - how people can adhere to principles and fight for what they believe in, “without demonizing those with just as strongly held convictions on the other side,” Obama said:

“Nowhere do these questions come up more powerfully than on the issue of abortion.”

Obama’s speech was all about the rhetoric.

Mark Warner was the Commencement speaker at my son’s graduation last Sunday. He said politics needs a return to civility, disagreement doesn’t indicate one is less patriotic. We should listen to each other and learn.
Funny when President Bush was in office dissent was patriotic now that Obama is president, disent is uncivil and mean spirited.
Who will point out the hypocrisy?

Take his speech and substitute the word abortion for slavery.

Evil is evil. Period.

“...the views of most Americans are...complex and contradictory...” Say what? In other words, it is far too complicated an issue for the “little people” to properly comprehend.

Yes. And a bit lukewarm on mention of other areas such as ‘the environment’ or whatever he said. Can you imagine attending this? It is like attending a Democratic convention and Obama support rally with deluded and deceptive use of religious and Christian believer jargon. It is a great delusion. A great deception. It is a travesty of Jesus and of God. It is the great work of evil. May some or maybe many in the audience get this. May their hearts be shown the truth and if not today in the coming days.

>>What is scary sick is that the vast majority at ND and Catholics in general support and love the guy.<<

And let’s not forget the Protestants and Jewish faiths as well.

It’s absolutley laughable to hear Democrats try to talk about civility or not “demonizing.” Their lack of class and professional is beyond question. Their constituencies are filled with hate, violence and immaturity beyond description.

If so, why did you allow pro-lifers to be termed domestic terrorists by DHS?

The ND president also said something like just because people disagree with him Obama doesn’t quit talking with them. HA! We all remember when he told the national Republican legislatures, “I won.” How about the attacks on any national figure not matter if they are a private citizen or not that has challenged or even questioned his policies. That commencement to day was mass delusion and lies.

So how insane does it make you when Obama Spends TRILLIONS and then says we can spend to much. Or when he says he doesn't want to own car companies and then takes control of them. Or like today when he says everyone should not be ARROGANT when I have never seen a more Arrogant politician. Here he is saying people should disagree respectfully while he tells his competitors to bad I WON .The amazing giant gap between his rhetoric and realty would be funny if half of America wasn't so dumb they fell for it.

And yes; ‘scary-sick’ is Obama in two words. Have not read all the posts; but am guessing that ‘TOTUS’ is leading him from somewhere. . .

When will dumbarses like the guy on Fox News now, stop trying to say Obama is a uniter and has the ability to bring us all together. He doesn’t and won’t ever earn my respect. He’s the most polarizing President in the history of the country and anything but a uniter.

Was he in an accident previously? Looks to me like he has an issue with his downward head movement.

There is not downward head movement when looking down your nose at the rest of the world.

I watch that crowd. They gave him overwhelming support, just as the Catholic’s did in helping him into office.

Obama now owns the Catholic Church.

nobama's "speech" is the biggest buncha BS I've heard in a long time.

"common ground" - BS
"But surely we can do so without reducing those with differing views to caricature." - BS
"views of most Americans on the subject are complex and even contradictory" - BS

It's real simple: either you are for killing innocent babies or you aren't. Period. End of discussion. Common ground my ass. Ain't nothing "complex" or "contradictory" about it. Pun-> It's like being pregnant, you is or you ain't. No common ground there!

But in every situation, I try and find some good. So here's the good: the speech lasted only 20 minutes.
