SEATTLE - The odyssey of Mary Kay Letourneau, which began years ago when she was a 34-year-old teacher who raped a sixth-grade student, has now evolved into "Hot for Teacher" night at a Pioneer Square bar.
But the bar's owner says the event is all in fun, and he hopes people take it in the right spirit.
Letourneau, who eventually served time for raping her former student then later married him after her release from prison, will be hosting the event Saturday at Fuel Sports Eats & Beats on Washington Street.
Letourneau's former student, Vili Fualaau, will be there, too. He'll be the DJ, spinning Top 40 and club classic hits all night.
Fuel's owner, Mike Morris, said he realizes having Letourneau host a "Hot Teacher" night could be touchy and might rub some people the wrong way.
But the way he figures it, "Mary's done her time. She's served her sentence. They're now married; they have kids together."
"It's turned into sort of a love story," he says. "I realize it had a sick twist at the beginning, but they're both adults now. They're both married by the state of Washington. So, it's just go and have fun on a Saturday night - and if people are looking to have some fun, just come check us out."
Morris said this is actually the third time that Letourneau and Fualaau have hosted a "Hot for Teachers" night at the nightclub. The first two events were low-key, and he said patrons really warmed up to the couple.

I see a lot of people who are unwilling to condemn her or her actions or the bar for chuckling at this and encouraging “teachers” to show their “sexy” side by partying with a known child predator teacher.
Too many on FR think back “if only this had happened to me”.

Well since I’m not one of those people I don’t see why you’re bitching at me about it. She broke the law, she did her time, she deserved to do time, and this event is tacky. Al I’m doing is pointing out that people are throwing around the word “rape” to create the image of violence in the act, and it was statutory rape which generally isn’t violent. That is ALL of what I’m saying, and your complaints are all stemming from stuff you inserted that is WAY outside of ANYTHING I said.

When I called him on it he accused me of being a slacker who agreed with the pornification of our culture, damned me to hell for fornication, and called my girlfriend a sleazy, lowlife, drunken, drug addled slut. Age of consent means age of legal consent. Anyone under the age is consider by law being unable to provide consent.
It is a lie to call this a “consensual act” unless he got legal emancipation first.

Ok, it was GladesGuru who called it “consensual”. The things “were said” and on this very same thread I have been accused of saying something on some other mysterious thread that I did not say and that cannot be found on Yahoo. I searched FR for threads that I even appear on with saleman and only find one match.

It is such a long and complicated process (unions) to fire a teacher, unless the teacher actually took part in sex and admitted it or the kids did, they probably wouldn’t be able to fire them.
No thanks. Some things are so vile that they should not make it into the news at all. After all, what is seen cannot be unseen.
If these events were not hosted by Mary Kay Letourneau, and if we weren't having a rash of teacher-student molestations across the country, they might actually be funny.
Diving into? This crap is an indication that we have been swimming in that cauldron for quite some time, and some of us think the water's just fine.
