Liberty University will no longer recognize its campus Democratic Party club because its parent organization stands against the conservative Christian school's moral principles.
The club, which has about 30 members, will no longer be able to use Liberty's name, hold on-campus meetings or be eligible for student activities money.
"I think it does the university a great disservice to stifle one side of the discussion simply because we are Democrats,'' said Maria Childress, the club's adviser and an administrative assistant at the school.
Brian Diaz, president of Liberty's Democratic club said he was informed of the school's decision in a May 15 e-mail.
"The candidates supported are directly contrary to the mission of Liberty University," the e-mail said.
Liberty has had a College Republicans club for several years. The Democratic club formed in October and worked aggressively to elect President Obama.
"They . . . let the Liberty University College Republicans stay on campus but they don't let us,'' said Diaz, 18, who will be a sophomore next year. "Sounds like censorship to me."

Liberty University is a religious institution. They should have a right to ask their students to comport themselves within the religious guidelines, set by the school.
Students are certainly free to object, and find another institution more to their liking.
Why would students pick a school to attend, if they disagreed with it’s philosophy? If I were a Democrat, I would not have applied there and have attended classes there.
It’s nice to see an institution charged with teaching skulls full of mush take a stand against unAmerican groups.
Good, a CHRISTIAN organization should point out that liberals/democrats
are not doing God’s work, they are doing Satan’s work, and will not be given support and sanction for doing so.
It’s pretty simple to show - just step through the horizontal commandments and compare liberals’ viewpoints on all those laws to God’s viewpoint.
I have a former Sunday School student about to go there-- and she comes from a very Democratic family. And although I love her dearly, she really is really an overly emotional liberal twit on many occasions.

No, Maria, the university disbanded it because of the numerous philosophical espousements of the Democratic Party which the university believes are akin to supporting & encouraging sin.
It’s not that you’re a Democrat, it’s that yours is the party dedicated to the Culture of Death instead of the Tree of Life.
I suspect they wouldn’t have too much patience for a Log Cabin club, or an Ayn Rand Objectivist Society either. For those who need to belong to such groups, there are about 2,000 colleges to choose from.
Oh, and nothng stops them from joining the local Dems or starting their own group without school support or endorsement.

It might be interesting list their beliefs and goals and methods to achieve those goals
and attempt to justify them with scripture in a debate format.

This is wrong, but it’s a private university so they can probably get away with this. Still, it is not conducive to free speech I would think.

At least one private University has the balls to stop the Leftist Hypocracy on campus. Can’t say that about all the other private, religious based universities. ..COUGH....Notre Dame...COUGH..
