Country's gun-loving tradition has gone too far (LEFT WING LOON ALERT!)
Pennlive ^ | 5/24/2009 | Bobby Warshaw aka Pansy

Posted on 05/27/2009 4:16:34 PM PDT by Red in Blue PA

In 2007, a student opened fire at Virginia Tech University, killing 32 students. In 1999, two high school students in Columbine, Colo., used guns to kill 12 students and injure 21 more. Now I must ask, how many students have to die before we take action?

Quite honestly, I am tired of hearing that the problem is a violent public rather than guns. "Guns don't kill people, people do," the avid gun owner argues. Tell me then how many teenagers the students at Columbine would have killed with a baseball bat? Could the student at Virginia Tech have gotten to 30 young adults with a knife?

Before you argue that Americans have the right to own guns, think of yourself or your child at school and whether you want a disgruntled classmate walking in with a bat or an automatic gun.

-snip-

Americans, for whatever reason, ignore the obvious evidence and stand rooted in their gun-loving tradition. Keep your rifle and enjoy your hunting. Someone, however, must explain to me why an American needs an automatic weapon to defend his family. I would love to know why an American has a right to bear arms, but not the right to feel safe from a simple and unskilled act of violence.

I post this merely as an example of the "logic" we are up against.

It’s well known that liberalism and rational thought cannot exist at the same time.

I wonder why they keep talking about coming for the guns.

“Now I must ask, how many students have to die before we take action? “

How many died prior to the passage of the 1968 Gun Control Act? We need to roll that back to get back to those peaceful days when kids brought their guns to school, schools had shooting teams, and everyone knew someone who had a gun- and the gun murder rate was low.

In fact, it still is low, except where foreign gangs are allowed to rule to justify strict controls on the rest of us.

Depends on how in shape they are, but can you kill 30 with a knife? YEP.

To kill more bad guys, before they kill you. Next question. And it would be great if we could actually have automatic weapons you frickin' idiot. You don't even know the difference. Why should anyone listen to what you have to say.

As a college student, I want to feel safe at school. Students have a distinct possibility of walking through campus one day and having someone open fire to kill dozens of their classmates. In high school, the possibility is even more frightful with everyone in an enclosed area.

Notice that nowhere in his article did he mention "GUN FREE ZONES"?

“Automatic” weapons have been illegal since 1934. People who cannot fathom the difference between automatic and “semi-automatic” have no business opining on firearms.

I speak with a lot of college students who carry concealed legally . They have the same attitude , those of us who fly two round trips a week developed after 9-11 .

R&B Pa, thanks for sharing that there are still people so stupid, It is a miracle that they are still alive.
I’d actually would like to be “that guy” in public or on some other property that actually stops the true stupidty before it happens. Gun control to me means tight grouping.

Hey! Libtards, how much gun legislation would you need to impose to prevent criminals and the criminally insane from getting and using guns?

Really? how stupid can a person be and still know that they need to breath to stay alive?

I’ll not shed a tear if the idiot of this peice becomes a victom.

"how many teenagers the students at Columbine would have killed with a baseball bat? Could the student at Virginia Tech have gotten to 30 young adults with a knife?"

Implicit in this screed, is the notion that no one would have been killed with either baseball bats or with a knife.

Equally implicit is the idea that if only eleven students had been bludgeoned to death with baseball bats, instead of twelve, that would somehow have been better. If the nutcase at VA Tech had only killed ten or twenty students with a bladed weapon, that would have been superior.

The notion that massacres cannot occur without firearms is nonsense. The assailants probably would have planned it differently, and chosen their targets differently, but there would still be a bunch of dead people, and more than a few maimed. Firearms might make mass murder more convenient, or they might not.

IIRC, the serial killers who have killed the most people, didn't use firearms. They didn't kill them all in one place at one time. But they killed more people.

OTOH, even one student or teacher with a CCW could have stopped the attack at either Columbine or VTech, right up front.

Quite honestly, I am tired of hearing that the problem is a violent public rather than guns. "Guns don't kill people, people do," the avid gun owner argues.

Bobby, do this simple experiment.

1. Bring 10 people into a room and set a gun on the table. Tell no one to pick up the gun. Observe what happens.

2. Then bring in a hardened criminal, tell him he can have the gun and that the ten people have lots of money on them. Observe what happens.

3. Then replace one of the ten people with a seasoned veteran who has a concealed carry. Bring the hardened criminal in and tell him the same as in 2 - that he can pick up the gun and that the people have lots of money. Observe what happens.

Now write another piece on gun control, to show how incredible stupid you really are.
