DALLAS - Frank Larison is a disabled veteran with more than 14 years of service, including more than a year of combat duty in Vietnam.
The 58-year-old former Marine now finds himself under attack by his Dallas homeowners association for displaying seven decals on his vehicle supporting the Marine Corps.
"To me, it's being patriotic, and it shows that I served," the veteran told FOX 4.
The board says the decals are advertisements that violate HOA rules, and must be covered or removed.
Otherwise, the homeowners association for The Woodlands II on The Creek --- where Larimore has lived for eight years --- says in a letter it will tow the car at Larimore's expense. The board also threatens to fine him $50 for any future incident.
Larimore says the decals, ranging from the Marine emblem to Semper Fi slogans, aren't advertisements for anything. "You can't buy freedom," he reasoned.
Some neighbors are outraged.
"That is his identity," said neighbor Mary Castagna. "He goes to a lot of the veteran meetings, and it means a lot to him. Everyone else agrees with it; it doesn't bother anybody."
"He's in the Marines, and he's proud of it, and I don't blame him," said neighbor Paul Hardy. "If I'd gone through what he's gone through, I'd be kind of proud of it myself."
The letter from the board states you can't have any form of advertisement anywhere on your car on your property. FOX 4 cameras spotted bumper stickers for political parties, health causes, and other non-commercial interests on the property as well.
One board member said he was unaware the HOA presidents sent the letter and did not know of any issue with Larimore's vehicle.
"I will be looking into it," said board member Art Bradford. "I didn't know anything about this. I haven't seen this."
The board president was out of town and unavailable. The condo management company did not want to comment.

I would want the HOA rules before I would even consider a purchase.

I’ve been doing some research on this Darenda Hardy character. Donates to the DNC. Appears to be a retired attorney. And possibly past President of Continental Airlines Flight Attendant Union during the 70s. Looks like a typical big time RAT.

When I received a threatening letter for moving a bush without their blessing, I started parting out junk cars in front of my house.
Always gone within 48 hours of course...hehehe.
After a few of those, nobody said a word when I landscaped after that.

Banning advertisements on cars means you can’t drive around with a pizza parlor sign on top of your car. If a bumper sticker is an advertisement, I guess they’d better tow all the cars with Obama bumper stickers on them right now.... at the HOA’s expense. Where’s the ACLU??? Aren’t this poor guys civil liberties being trampled? I try to consider myself a moderate but I am SICK TO DEATH of the excesses of mindless liberals.
I will gladly contribute to his legal fees to fight this. If anyone knows him please tell him to contact conservative gear.

Then they came for the Veterans and the Gun Owners and I did not speak out because I was not a Veteran and I did not own a gun. They kept coming and soon took away many of my neighbors and I stood by and said nothing, I only worried each time that they had come for me, but they did not. Finally there came a time when they stopped coming and I and the few neighbors who were also spared gathered to discuss how relieved we were that the troubles now seemed to be over and how lucky we were not to have been taken away. And we rejoiced that we had been spared until one neighbor pointed out: “They have no need to come for those who are obedient slaves.”
there are a lot of HOA’s that do not allow trucks or work vehicles in driveways. Its that crazy
I have heard of HOAs that do not allow cars parked in driveways...they have to be in garages. does he have one? can he keep his truck in there? and why should ANYONE have any signs, you can’t just pick on one guy.

Just some two cents worth from a retired USN man. It’s obvious some HOAs are run by power crazed nut cases. Almost always hard core leftists. I think the marine should buy a speaker and attach it to his roof. Then drive over to the mini Hitlers house and blast out the Marine Hymn at max volume. Around 4 AM would be a good start. Two or three times a day should get their attention. Next he should buy a USMC flag and fly it from his house. These HOA megalomaniacs make me want to vomit.
