It gets creepier and scarier by the day.

“Well if Zero’s Defense Secretary says North Korea is not a threat, then it must be so. He must also remember if that turns out to be untrue, Zero won’t be able to blame the previous administration.”

I suspect Mr. Gates is aware of the obvious, and is clearing the path for some major arse covering should the NORKS prove O’s kindergarten kabinet and their advisors tragically wrong. We are in a heap of doo-doo.

I live in a farming community on the island of Kyushu which is only about 375 miles south of the South Korea / North Korea border . Check out a map of Korea/Japan to see just how close we are .

People around here that I know don’t talk much about the situation . Right now their main deal is getting rice planted . I would assume they are concerned , but probably think it is more brinkmanship than anything else .

Personally speaking , I fear that this time is more than brinkmanship , and it is not only about testing the Obama administration and US allies in the region . My gut tells me that we’re going to see a major move by NK in Asia in the near future , and something big happening on US soil around the same time via our Muslim foes .

We should have a Secretary of War, not just a Defense Secretary. The outlook, agenda and tactics are quite different.

North Korea’s actions so far do not warrant sending more US troops to the region.

Well, quite frankly, I'm not too certain why we would want to send more troops to be targeted by a "weak" nuclear weapon either. There must be better alternatives out there...

Your title and the quote don’t match.

If we are going to harp about the media then let us at least have better standards then them.

There is a huge threat that terrorists will acquire nuclear weapons from North Korea, Iran, or Pakistan.

The U.S. is not doing enough to make sure terrorists currently operating inside Pakistan don’t get their hands on Pakistan’s nuclear weapons.

The U.S. should bomb both Iran and North Korea to destroy their military capability, including any nuclear sites. People will say this is reckless war-mongering, but it’s insane to wait.

May 18, 2008: Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us. ...they spend 1/100th of what we spend on the military. I mean, if Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance.

May 20, 2008 (2 days later!): Iran is a grave threat. It has an illicit nuclear program. It supports terrorism across the regions and militias in Iraq. It threatens Israel's existence. It denies the Holocaust.

He’s called OBAMA DEFENSE SECRETARY because he’s always gotta defend DUh-bama’s weak-kneed positions.

Anyone who’d work for the COWARD-IN-CHIEF is DUmber than a box of rocks.

It breaks my heart to see those little children like that. They must be terrified. I will say, though, that it is good to see the S. Koreans do not have their heads in the sand and are preparing themselves as best they can. I am glad to se the kids have gas masks and have realistic drills. It’s just hard to see them like that.

Of course, the zero is going to say that. If he admitted NK was a threat, he would have to actually DO something.

Never should have been appointed by GW — it was his Dad’s idea. He should have taken every one of his Dad’s ideas and threw them out.

Gates is a horrible SecDef. Guess he figured since he could run A&M where there is no military commitment from the corps, he could run the Defense Department. He was wrong and so was Bush to appoint him. I would love to know what Cheney thought because Bush appointed a brown noser who cannot find the bad guys to be Sec Def who seems to be on his knee pads for ZERO.
