Saying movie twists facts, Film Commission denies it a state rebate, but filming will go on
Movie producer Emilio Ferrari vowed last week to move ahead with his $30 million screen depiction of the deadly 1993 clash between federal agents and Branch Davidian cultists, even though the Texas Film Commission says the project could taint Texas image and is unworthy of taxpayer support.
The movie, Waco, would be the first feature-film treatment of the 51-day federal siege of David Koreshs Central Texas compound that led to the death of four federal agents and more than 80 cult members.
Ferrari, whose production credits include Baby on Board, starring Heather Graham, called the incident the nations biggest tragedy, after 9/11.
And this was by Americans against Americans, he said. Its been completely swept under the rug. I think people have a right to know what happened. Im not a political guy at all. Im making a story from every point of view.
The Texas Film Commissions director, Bob Hudgins, said the movie would not be eligible for a state rebate of up to 15 percent on in-state production costs because the movie doesnt accurately portray Texans. In language creating the stipend, lawmakers specified that Film Commission grants should be denied movies that distort facts to make Texas look bad.

What surprises me is that they would be making it now. Like any totalitarian ideology they don’t normally allow criticism.
Waco was a Dem run affair.
With the run up to the last presidential election Disney buried “The Path to 9/11” taking a financial hit to prevent its sales. If they were willing to lose millions to prevent that from getting out, why do this now? I wonder what is up with this project?
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!
The ATF raided the Branch Davidian compound on February 28, 1993. The President at the time was William Jefferson Clinton.
Ruby Ridge did happen under Bush 41.
When I saw American Tanks being used against American citizens. I knew our country was gone..
They could of picked those people up on there way to Chucky Chez.Way to go Ms. Reno
Lotsa black Americans died there. Where were the JustUs bruthas?
Hillary isn’t going to be happy about a movie depicting one of the many failures of their administration. /s
This may or not be true. Wikipedia is completely untrustworthy.
Biggest tragedy other than 9/11? How about Oklahoma City in April of 1995??? Pearl Harbor????
So you think that just 28 days into the Clinton administration they just up and decided to raid the compound???This raid had been in the works for a long time before that.
That’s an interesting website. Brings back some bad memories.
And didn’t the Feds break down the doors shortly thereafter to “save” Elian Gonzalez and return him to the Cuban paradise with his father?
EVERY point of view? How about the Amish? They don’t believe in photography.
Good question. Just to help bring more film business to Texas, I guess. I think there are other states that do something similar.
He’s “not” political, remember? (sarc/)
Horiuchi hasn’t been out of hiding much since then.
If the film is truthful and accurately portrays the tragedy as it actually developed and ended it won't make TX look bad, it will make Janet Reno and her bosses the Clintons look like the wanton killers of innocent women and children they are. IMHO Koresh and many of his henchmen deserved everything they got, but the 55 deluded women and 21 helpless children who died in the Branch Davidian compound fire started by federal agents acting on Reno's orders did not.
After the tragedy FBI spokesmen denied the use of any sort of pyrotechnic devices during the assault; however, pyrotechnic Flite-Rite CS gas grenades were found in the rubble immediately following the fire. In 1999, FBI spokesmen were finally forced to admit that FBI agents had used those grenades. Bush and Cheney are pilloried by the media and liberal Democrats for allowing terrorist murderers to be waterboarded to obtain information that saved an unknown number of innocent American lives. But the Clintons and their subservient underlings caused, not allowed, caused, 76 innocent women and children to be burned to death 16 years ago near Waco TX, and IIRC not a word of criticism came from any of those same people. By no means do I excuse Koresh for any of the horrors that took place at the Branch Davidian compound, but if life was fair the Clintons, Reno, and quite a few other government agency personnel would have been severely punished for what they did and/or ordered done.
But then, that would have been the prerogative of Bush 43, wouldn't it?
Pesky ordinary citizens, always in the way.
