Pittsburgh native and former Ohio congressman John Kasich will be announcing his bid to take on Democratic Governor Ted Strickland for the Buckeye state's executive office in 2010.

Look for the announcement to appear around the same time on his Web site

Kasich hails from the McKees Rocks suburb of Pittsburgh that also gave Pennsylvania the late Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll and cable news junkies frequent appearances of Oxi-Clean spokesperson, Billy Mays (Hi, Billy Mays here!).

A former nine-term congressman, presidential candidate and host of his own Fox News Show appropriately called "Heartland with John Kasich," Kasich, 57, filed the appropriate paperwork to run for Ohio's executive office early last month.

Kasich developed a reputation as a congressman that stood for lower taxes, family values and reduced spending during the heady days of the Newt Gingrich led Republican Revolution. His last few weeks doing the covered-dish detail across the state has shown he has not veered from that plank.

Except for his stand on semi-autos's. Ask him about it. I have not forgotten it. Kasich is a back stabbin RINO weasel. Just what we need for governor.

Meanwhile, the very liberal Strickland is not making any waves and will be a shoo-in if we have another RINO run. Why don't the Repub party give Blackwell a fair shot?

Sorry to say I think Strickland is not going to be beat. He's a liberal but all in all has managed to keep it to a low roar. His approval numbers are very high. He tends not to make waves. Now his 2nd term may be a different story.

Don’t discount those who are conservative in most ways, but differ in one or two. As long as they don’t work to hamper conservatism, I’m glad to have them on our side.

Conservatives are going to HAVE to be tolerant, or we'll find ourselves in a minority in perpetuity. If a politican doesn't toe the conservative line, I don't mind, as long as he or she is conservative on the abortion issue, even marginally so. If they're soft on other issues, I can deal with that, but I just don't want them working AGAINST conservative issues, or trashing conservatives, as many RINOS tend to do.

Cheney didn't do anything to push homosexual marriage on this country, so if he personally supports it, that's up to him, and it doesn't bother me.

We won't get purity in a candidate for national election; they wouldn't get the votes of independents, which ARE needed, no matter how much we are annoyed by that prospect.

you’re describing John McLAME.. and look what it got us. Screw it... I held my nose and voted for McLame, but ... it won’t happen again.

I hate to say this, but without a VetoPROOF Majority in both houses,The ONLY thing a President can do about abortion is appoint Justices to the Supreme Court that can overturn ROE v. Wade... and that isn’t going to happen in my lifetime.

I just now watched Dick Cheney on Gretta support gay marriage and it almost made me puke. So he caved because he has a queer daughter, but what about “morality”. This is why all politician's trustworthiness is down in the dumps.

Not me. I was just saying last week that the Republican party needs to purge itself down to Rush, Cheney and me. Well, now it's down to Rush and me. I'd rather have a pure party than kissing RINO’s asses just to get elected. We've been doing that for years now and look where we are.

I’d rather have some conservative representatives in Congress, even if they’re not pure, who can and will DO something. We can’t be of any use sniping from the sidelines, no matter how good we feel about ourselves in the process.

That doesn't describe John McCain, who is only marginally conservative, though pro-life. I think it more describes Fred Thompson, who at least was very strong on the Constitution.

Had it not been for the problems in the economy, the timing of which still makes me suspicious, McCain might just have pulled it off, but only because he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. Otherwise, conservatives would have stayed home in even greater numbers than they did.

As far as I'm concerned, if folks have their own personal views about a subject, like homosexual marriage, but don't try to force that on the country, I'm fine with that. Dick Cheney never mentioned homosexual marriage when he was Vice-President, so he never had any political impact on the issue.

Abortion doesn't fall into that category, however, because that is an issue dealing with the deaths of innocent children, and I'll not support anyone who is pro-abortion.
