Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday" that President Barack Obama's proposed health care plan is the "first step in destroying the best health care system the world has ever known."
"When the government is involved more and more in the details," Shelby said, "and you start the one-pay deal and you got the government competing with private enterprise with all the incentives the government has and the power, they can destroy the marketplace for health care and it will be a mistake and the American people better be careful in what they want."

What's your income level and monthly premium?
Response: True.
I think you’re on the right (no pun intended) track there.
“The German, French and Japanese systems are so far superior and cheaper as to make anyone with a clue know how laughable and Goebbel-esque propaganda based lying is going on.”
What do you mean?...how good are these health systems?...just curious....can you be specific?
This year we’re down 33% gross to a little over $5000 mo. Premium is $1200 plus...... We’re using savings to get us through til, hopefully, the economy around here improves.
Another question I have to though, is how monopolied are the pharmaceutical companies? Ever noticed how several medicines, while under different names are manufactured at the same facilities? And if they aren’t monopolied, is there callusion?
> President Barack Obama’s proposed health care plan is the “first step in destroying the best health care system the world has ever known.”
Only if he gets elected here in New Zealand. We’re not letting him anywhere near our health care system.
Medicare is irreparable; short of setting a shelf life.
I’ve got a great idea, there are too many food insecure people yoday; why don’t we set up a mandatory food insurance program whereby everybody pays $75/week into the plan and con then go to any market and buy whatever they want from a list of approved foods and portions.
Those who can’t pay are subsidized by the government while those who can pay still enjoy the benefits of eating the same healthful diet.
No exceptions.
What is the meaning of ‘can’t afford’? Does that mean you’d have to alter your lifestyle to pay the money?
Because, I’m a small businessman as well. I don’t have insurance because I don’t want to pay the money. However, I have a new car, a nice house, and a couple of big televisions that I could have lived without had I wanted to pay for insurance.
To advocate for the absolute end of freedom in the United States rather than drive an older vehicle or live in a smaller house seems very short sighted to me.
What’s the total of your family medical bills this past year?
yoday -> today; con -> can
How about this — we’ll sign on to universal health care when the implement a ten-month waiting period on therapeutic abortions.
“GM Healthcare”
Obama should fix Medicare first, to prove he knows how to fix something. Then, after he proves he knows how to do it, then we can talk about the larger heath care system.
Why would anyone want to have their choice ofhealthcare replaced with the equivalent of the US Postal Service or the Dept of Motor Vehicles?!!!
Oh, and where the H*LL are they going to get the money to pay for it, oh yeah, tax us MORE!!! VAT, tax health care, tax soda, sodium, etc. Just amazing how dumbed-down our citizenry has become
;^)
Shelby is nuts on this one. We are FAR from the best health care. I’m paying $1800 a month for a family policy, high deductible, limited prescriptions, very little dental or eyecare. Small business owners get screwed on health care in this country. IF Obama can make it better, more power to him.
Thank you, sir!
Can you find a plan with higher deductibles / copays and a lower premium? That's how mine is structured. So long as we limit our visits to truly necessary ones, we come out way ahead.
