US Border czar warns cartels against targeting US forces

US border czar Alan Bersin warned Mexico's brutal drug cartels Tuesday that threats to target law enforcement officials on both sides of the border would be met by a "significant response."

Bersin said a recent call by one cartel kingpin to ramp up violence against US and Mexican law enforcement agents was potentially of "grave significance" and was being "taken seriously" by the administration.

"Should law enforcement, border patrol agents, customs officers or local and state law enforcement officers be targeted that would be considered a major departure from existing practice of the cartels, and a threat that called for a significant response," he said.

While drawing a line in the sand, Bersin did not specify what the US response might be, except to say efforts would be stepped up to apprehend those responsible.

Will someone please tell me how we got to the point where we have czars in the United States? How did Obama bypass appointments to institute this practice and who pays for them (as if I didn't know)? It would be interesting to know the most Czars that existed in Russia at any given time.

My guess is that we outnumber them considerably.

Doesn't 0 have to first go to Mexico to bow and apologize to Calderon before any US agents can respond to protect their own butts?

Walls and fences work wonders....if not they need to take the one down around Ft. Know and scrap the metal; goobermint needs some cash.

“While drawing a line in the sand, Bersin did not specify what the US response might be”

Line in the sand - gimme a frickin’ break! It’s another “protest in the strongest terms” that we’ve heard too often. I think these people really don’t see how stupid and weak they seem to bullies...

I imagine the Caucasian ones are pretty much fair game.

The only “response” they would understand would be “Firing upon border patrol agents will be taken as an act of war, and the US military will thereupon hunt down and kill (not capture, kill) anybody remotely involved”

The whole concept is unconstitutional. Any person who can issue orders to government employees and order money spent, and who reports directly to the President, is a cabinet official who requires Senate confirmation.

that would be considered a major departure from existing practice of the cartels,

Let me get this straight..."it is okay to shoot up civilians, don't worry, we'll just make a little noise in the press and drop it.

But, hoo-boy howdy, don' you be messin' with our LEOs 'cause then we're gonna open up a big ol' can o' Whoop A$$ on you!"

Did I get that about right?

You are probably right. Besides, Obama and the democrats have been protecting the latin drug kingpins for decades. This is just propaganda talk.

Cards Help Cartels Bring $ Across Border
Smugglers Can Put Up To $1M On Stored Value Cards, Goddard Says

PHOENIX — Drug smugglers have found a new tool that lets them carry large amounts of money over the border without violating any laws, according to Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard.Normally, it’s illegal for anyone to send more than $10,000 out of the country at any one time; however, smugglers can put money on a stored value card, which looks like a credit card, carry it across the border and use the card to retrieve the cash.Though the cards have legitimate uses, critics argue they’re being abused by drug cartels.”These are gift cards on steroids,” Goddard said. “These are cards capable of having up to $1 million (on them).”There are no federal laws that prohibit carrying these cards across the border.”You can put the money (on the card) in one country, and then just carry this card across to another,” Goddard said. “It’s something that I’ve been pleading with the federal authorities that they’ve got to close that loophole.”Usually offshore banks issue these cards, but retail gift cards and phone cards are often used for the same purpose.Goddard said he plans to speak with other lawmakers and law enforcement officials at an anti-money-laundering conference about ways to make it more difficult for smugglers to take their profits across the border.

If the cartels attacked a few ACORN offices we would see an immediate military response.
