Veterinary group rethinks fish toss in Seattle By DOUG ESSER 1 hour ago
SEATTLE (AP) Seattle's famed fishmongers may be tossing rubber fish instead of real ones at a national veterinary association's convention next month following complaints from an animal-rights group.
American Veterinary Medical Association chief executive Ron DeHaven said the Schaumburg, Ill.-based organization had thought inviting one of Seattle's top tourist attractions the fish-throwers at the Pike Place Fish Market to the event would be a great "team-building experience."
But after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals raised concerns about the ethics of using dead fish as props at a veterinary event, DeHaven said the AVMA would explore other options, including an alternative PETA suggested: using rubber fish.

Veterinary Group Rethinks Fish Toss in Seattle
Let’s toss them in more safer place-a frying pan
Perhaps the people who fish the lake I frequent should send the remains of their cleaned fish to PETA.
Throw PETA members. They’re not as attractive, they’re not as smart, and no one cares if you miss one and they hit the floor. The only downside is that they have a worse odor than dead fish.
Dead Fish...otherwise known as FOOD
PETA never surprises me I look forward to their next absurdity. Gives me a reason to get up in the morning. ;-)
He’s dead Jim.
Throw PETA members
Good Idea. I heard that Great White season has already started
PETA should not be pandered to.
I had to watch the “Fish Toss” motivational video once at my old job. It was okay, I guess, but I don’t see all the hoopla...especially for what that frickin’ video costs just to rent!
Oh yeah, PETA sucks.
Why don’t both the fishmongers and the veterinarians tell those PETA wackos to go pound sand? We have truly become “Wimp Nation”. Disgusting!
If I’m not mistaken, the salmon in that photo has no head.
Do they think what’s done with his carcass really matters to the salmon *now*?
There's a lot of animal cruelty that PETA could spend their energy on. Dead fish don't make the list. Bunch of ninnies.
you know, vegetarians don’t seem to realize that plants have emotions too.
No foolin.....they measured electrical activity in plants getting their branches torn off, and it increased!
We must treat veggies ethically! We will have nothing else left to eat besides our poo.
and have you ever wondered by PETA doesn’t go after other carnivores, like bears and cougars, for their unethical treatment of other animals?
“and have you ever wondered by PETA doesnt go after other carnivores, like bears and cougars, for their unethical treatment of other animals?”
That is an easy one to answer. PETA freaks may be freaks, but they are not so freakin’ crazy as to debate ANYTHING with a bear.
They remember Timothy Treadwell, A.K.A. Mr. Bear Scat.
Same reason they throw red paint on little old ladies in fur and not Hells Angels wearing leather - self preservation and lack of nerve.
Maybe PETA should protest the Grizzlies and Brown Bears who toss around live fish, prior to tearing through their flesh while they are still squirming.
