New York Lawmaker Calls on CBS to Fire Letterman for Palin Comments

New York State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, a Republican, is calling on the CEO of CBS to fire David Letterman for crude comments he made about Sarah Palin and her daughter.

In the letter to CBS chief Les Moonves, Kolb said he took Letterman to task for the "shockingly inappropriate" jokes.

“As the proud father of a daughter, and as a husband, I wanted Mr. Moonves to hear from me directly about Mr. Letterman’s disparaging remarks," Kolb said in a written statement.

“Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees — even an established media figure like Mr. Letterman — making demeaning and degrading comments about women.”

As I said in post 37. These kind of remarks never were considered free speech and rightly so.

This has nothing to do with “contemporary liberal quelching of free speech”.

Whether 50, 100 or 200 years ago, if someone said something like this about a girl, daughter, wife, mother he ended in front of your fist, gun or a court.

Callender wrote and said some pretty vicious, and untrue, things about Thomas Jefferson. Our second greatest POTUS stated that he would have never considered restricting Callender's right to speak.

Hamilton and Burr disagreed.

Letterman is against women and young girls like most liberals are...he just hides behind his false proclamations. There is nothing worse than a user who pulls himself to the top based on hidden abuse and bias.

Republicans should PROMISE to take the licenses of NBC,Cbs

Gee, how hard a case would it be to make that these news outlets serve a distinct ideology, rather than delivering unbiased 'news'? I can't watch them anymore than I could watch Pravdans or Baghdad Bob.

Neither Hamilton nor Burr were on the intellectual or practical level that Thomas J was.
We disagree on this, Wood, but we do agree on whom should be our next POTUS.
And this is my final post on the subject, my friend.

fyi - Check out Tammy Bruce’s posts today at Twitter. She’s slamming the McCain’s, and those in their camp, pretty well.

As you please, but let this sink in about what giant ***holes Letterman and ilk are:

There are suggestions that he might invite Tina Fey to respond to Palin.

Got it? A family is being destroyed. And some want to take the high ground.

Fight fire with fire.

**You wrote***Absolute nonsense... While I think that Letterman is surely a jerk,no make that an asswipe..This is America even though we have a President trying to change that.We do not need Republicans trying to help him accomplish that destruction..Letterman has the right to be as stupid and ignorant as he wants to be. If a majority of AMERICANS realize that he would be off the air for the right reasons..If not then we have bigger problems then Letterman....

Common decency is never wrong...Americans have a right to voice their opinion on anything...our freedom of speech is also at risk if we (average) Americans don't speak out against jokes about raping a 14 year old girl, we might as well just roll over and die..TV stations are using "the peoples airways" thats what the government says when they sell the airwaves. There is no censorship in satellite because the gov't is not involved...Let the old leach go to satellite like Imus and Stern did..

If someone thinks it is inappropriate for the public to be outraged, they are already morally dead.....since the only ones standing up for Letterman are the liberals..

I thought the NY assembly was now under Republican control after those 2 dems switched the other day.

No, it is the NY State Senate where the switch has taken place. The Dems became the majority in the State Senate this year, after many years in the minority there. Then, last week, the two Democratic State Senators said they would vote in the Republican caucus, giving the State Senate back to the Republicans.

The NY State Assembly has always been under the control of the Democrats, as far as I can remember.

let the market place decide to bury letterman with whether or not they watch their shows

This IS the marketplace working. No one has asked for a law to be passed for Letterman to be fired. Instead, people in the marketplace are putting pressure on CBS to fire him.

I've been surfing digg.com, digging up any pro-Palin, anti-Letterman discussions, and down voting the pro-Letterman comments, which are usually either nasty, condescending or both.

OTOH, I can't downvote the reddit folks fast enough.
Everybody, please check out this page. You don't have to leave a comment if you don't want to, but down-vote the bad comments:

David Letterman has demonstrated why speech is free...so little of it is worth anything.

Look pal, do not pull that fecking condescending act on me. You "got it"?

Here's a novel fecking idea, why not let the PALINS handle this themselves. They are more than capable.

Sarah has already won this fight. Letterman is expsosed as the ahole he is. Sarah hit the right balance. She issued her statement, then when Matt Lauer asked if they could talk about it her “If you must” line was perfect. Sarah’s backers (of which I am one) risk overplaying their hand if they start sounding like whining libs playing the victim card. Take the win and move on. Sarah needs to keep talking issues and focus on Obama, not Letterman.

Some "conservatives" let these creeps have a pass because they they secretly agree with them. It's all high fives and let this one pass, eh jla?

Is it any wonder why the family and the country is falling apart? If all our conservative men had the guts to take a stand on these issues the stupid government wouldn't have to be taking over. If the promises that were given were actually carried through with we wouldn't even be having this discussion. The country is falling apart because Rinos agree with Clinton type liberal scumbags.
