Jay Leno Palin joke

Posted on 06/13/2009 8:41:31 AM PDT by Nomad577

I guess I'm just trying to be devil's advocate or something, there have been hundreds of jokes.

"Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it." -- "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," 9/2/08

do you really think the audience really laughs at all those jokes?

Yes. I do.

The population as a whole, probably not, but Letterman fans, yes.

Edwards had an extramarital affair. Spitzer got in trouble for screwing prostitutes. In Letterman’s joke, the obvious implication was that Willow is a prostitute. Anyone with half a brain can see that. That’s why people are so upset with Letterman, and were not upset as much with Leno. Leno’s joke was tasteless but did not cross the line (barely). Letterman crossed the line. Plus, he is a no talent ass clown who is constantly prosyletizing for the left, whereas Jay’s humor is generally more politically balanced. So, screw him. The right should not let up on Letterman until he is gone. Period. No mercy.

"This is a surrender of our principles. Free speech is worthwhile."

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences for the stupid ass things you say. Letterman crossed the line big time, and he needs to pay the piper. He is free to say it, and the public is free to tell him to go screw himself. The public is free to turn off the tv whenever this no talent ass clown shows his face, and we are free to boycott any sponsors who support him. Period.

“There were several on this board suggesting we make an attempt to get Garofalo fired from 24 for the crime of being liberal. That’s no less ridiculous than trying to get a conservative fired for being conservative.”

You don’t understand the purpose of letting off steam. It is not only to be expected as part of human nature, but also a healthy thing. You do it yourself. Everyone does it.

How about new york or California?

That is where the incidents took place.

Don’t people have to obey the laws of the state they are in?

Linda Tripp was a private citizen. She was not a politician. There’s no difference between her and any woman in your neighborhood who is a single parent and trying raise kids on her own. I emphasize this point because the Leftists constantly try to act as if they really care about single mothers. Why it’s the most noble thing on the planet. Wives with kids AND husbands, not so much. So when they rip one of their special interest people nightly, it really grates me the wrong way.

As for Blewhimsky, she was Clinton’s sexual liason. That’s considerably different than a potential witness someone is trying to get to lie.

Leno told absolutely disgusting jokes about Tripp for about eighteen months to two years, almost nightly. I have no use for the guy. If it had been one of my family members, I would have been livid. Therefore I treat it the same way I would if it were a family member.

The right to free speech does not include the right to be immune from its effects. The government is enjoined from administering “punishment” for speaking out, but the people are not.

I see it this way: If we are not allowed to react strongly (or weakly, for that matter) to Letterman’s offensiveness, then we have no right to free speech ourselves. If “free speech” means we cannot be discerning in our tastes - including the right to protest loudly and try to get an offensive boor fired - then the first amendment is truly dead.

It's not against the law to make a joke, only to commit the actual act.

“Yes there have been but be very wary of making false equivalencies. The left does that all the time - every day. It becomes such a pattern that people don’t even recognize it after awhile.”

Good point. On some blogs, the leftists are deflecting this into a discussion of Obama’s health care plan, and our people always take the bait. Next thing you know there are a hundred technical posts and the left has won with another intentional deflection. We have to stay on topic and hammer them.

You went to publik skuls, didn't you?

If I defended anyone, it was Leno. But I did neither.

But thanks for playing.

He could have said Letterman's Wife instead of Palin’s Daughter. Dave and his wife had their Son without the benefit of Marriage and they were old enough to know better.

Letterman is a Hypocrite, a very Vile Hypocrite.

To Corin Stormhands:... Feel better now that you’ve defended Letterman?... You’re sick. Go back to DailyKos.

02bfree - Do you even realize how much of an abject cretin you are? You don't, do you? You fecking knuckledraggers are acting like feral, rabid dogs over this Letterman issue. You are all an embarrassment to:

Sarah Palin
The GOP
Mankind in general.

Great to see the white trash Republicans giving the Right yet another black eye. I'm sure you are all proud of yourselves.

By the way, Cletus, Corin is a fellow Virginian who has been active in the commonwealth's GOP for a long time. He had once worked for former U.S. Senator George Allen, and he is without a doubt, (unless one is uncouth, ignorant and ill-bred, then that person will have doubts) a conservative.

Sorry, o2bfree, for using words with more than one syllable. Don't mean to tax that brilliant mind of yours.

Thanks jla.

The point of my original post, which o2bfree obviously missed was that Leno’s joke, while in bad taste, was not as vile as Letterman’s.

I’ll use smaller words next time.

And genius, I'd say that DailyKOS would be more amenable to yourself and anyone else who thinks it ok to coerce a private business enterprise into dismissing an employee. For that is exactly what the Obama admin is doing and here you all are doing likewise regarding Letterman.

Jefferson wept

OK, sorry to draw any misconclusions about Corin. He sounds like a great guy from what you wrote so far. But on the topic we’re discussing, I and many other folks on FR will surely disagree with the logic you’ve presented.

If protesting the treatment of Sarah’s children by David Letterman, and Jay Leno is embarrassing to Sarah Palin, the GOP, and mankind as you claim... Why is Sarah Palin then leading the charge herself? I suppose you’re suggesting Sarah Palin is embarrassing herself by defending her herself and her family? Is she embarrassing the GOP by defending herself and her family? Is she embarrassing mankind by defending herself? Why are Rush, and Hannity and Levin all in agreement with me, and in disagreement with you JLA?

Your logic is ridiculous and your post is hysterical. The vitriol you displayed here... it seems you doth protest too much... its as if you possess some unknown motive to protect the interests of the late night comics at CBS and NBC.

Imagine being angry and bitter because you get to go on network television every night and talk to millions of people, and get paid millions of dollars to do it—but not the OTHER network.
