This time the revolution will not be televised but it will be social networked. (Vanity)

What maybe the Second Iranian Revolution illustrates the power of social networking sites like twitter, blogs, youtube and flickr.

They have completely superceded the MSM as the best source of information. In fact on twitter, CNN is being excoriated for it lack of coverage - #cnnfail

The Iranian government belatedly has realized the power of these sites and attempting to cut the internet, cellphones, and satellite dishes.

I'm stunned by the courage of some of these people who are trying to get inform people on what happening in iran.

Here's a list of some of what's available out there

http://twitter.com/Change_for_Iran - seems to be a student reporting from the middle of the protest

http://twitter.com/IranElection09 - giving a good overview of what's happening in Tehran

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2mRvMDZYto&feature=channel - ahriman46 is providing phone videos of the protests

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mousavi1388/sets/72157619592664479/show/ - mousavi1388 is uploading photo's taken at the various protest in Iran, most from cellphones.

http://tehranlive.org/ - Amir Sadeghi's blog has provided some of the best pictures coming out of this election.

My Mistake. Let me rephrase. Nobody over 40 should be allowed to make policy decisions regarding the use of technology in our campaigns. Ugh... this isn't working.... WE NEED TO USE MODERN TECHNOLOGY TO CAPTURE VOTERS AND FOSILS LIKE ME AREN”T GOING TO DELIVER THE GOODS ON THIS ONE SO LET THE KIDS DO IT... or something...

I wish we (or, I) were on Facebook and Twitter and all of the other instant networking tools that is making the younger generation so incredibly networked. This new paradigm will change election politics forever. It may have just worked in Iran, but for the Mullahs...

Either the more mature GOP figures this out or the youger Socialist Party (er, I mean, the Democrats) will figure it out. Whereupon, we shall become political toast!

Don’t worry. I think most understand what you mean. We need internet savy people higher in the Republican party so that we can access the benefits of it. The older higher ups aren’t so internet or tech savy. Most of this stuff would never occur to them or they wouldn’t know how to implement it.

...and from the other side of the street, from the paper generation, the quickest way to cause panic, helplessness, general chaos, among the young, is to shut down the alternatives such as cell phones, internet, etc.

Hmmm, come to think of it, might just cause the same things among the elderly as well. We have enjoyed the pleasures and luxury of alternative media for some time now, and it sure beats, lights in the church tower, ciphered short wave radio, handbills, mimeograph, Morse code, and the tap code used by U.S. prisoners in North Vietnam.

What would it take to interrupt or take down the internet backbone, and just what is available as a viable option in that event?
