There is a town in Alberta, Canada with the evocative name of Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. It takes its name from a geologic feature that North American Indians used to hunt bison. The Indians would stealthily arrange themselves around a herd of bison and, at a signal, jump up and alarm the herd into a stampede. By their strategic positioning, the Indians would cause the herd to stampede over a cliff (the buffalo jump) thus killing or sufficiently injuring the animals so that they'd be short work for Indians waiting below the cliff.
The Obama administration has been using buffalo jump hunting on the Congress and the American people. It is at the root of Rahm Emmanuel's now notorious comment that "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." The "Stimulus" was one such stampede -- Congress didn't even take the time to read the bill before running [us] over the buffalo jump. The current one is the "Health Care Crisis". Everyone run in fear! Obama will show us the "escape route"; in our rush to "safety" we won't heed the fatal drop in front of us. Next will come the "Carbon Crisis". And then...well, save something for next year.
If the American people don't stop stupidly rushing headlong from every phoney Rahm-crisis their first awareness of impending doom will be on the ride down from the buffalo jump of financial disaster.
The local trick was driving them into the Lake....
Very true, but as citizens we need a specific, coordinated strategy to counter this. Just like the buffalo analogy, if they all turned en masse on those who where trying to chase them over the clif, the combined power would make a difference. Instead, we each do our own little thing and are nothing more than flys to the administration.
IMHO, we need to coordinate one or two days to hit congress hard with phone calls and faxes (etc).. link up with as many other groups and sites as possible, and have one loud voice, not a bunch of small fly voices.
May I email your excellent analogy to friends outside FR?
I agree. The point of action is Congress as you said. I don't know how we can get the linking up so as to be one voice. Conservatives seem naturally ambivalent about joining monolithic organizations. I think it's starting to happen gradually, embryonically, thru the Tea Parties and various websites but until there is a presidential candidate to rally around it will stay diffuse.
Do feel free to use it anywhere it might help to bring light. ;-)
Does anyone remember the uproar when Bush tried to reform health care by allowing poeple to have a private health account? It was a private plan that would have worked, but noooo, the liberals had a hissy fit. Now that they want “universal” health care paid for with our taxes, they are all on board and cheerleading. These people are total idiots and I hope this snake comes back to bite them.
...for those of you who thought Medicine Hat and Moose Jaw were silly names.
Reminds me of the great Canadian TV comedy Corner Gas.
In one episode, the character Lacy researches how their town of Dog River, Saskatchewan got it’s name. Turns out it was named after her ancestor, who drowned his sled dog team in the local river.
The “Head-Smashed-In” part of the name comes not, as one would presume, from the fate of the buffalo but, rather, refers to an Indian whose curiosity got the better of him. He wanted to see what the bison looked like going over the cliff so stationed himself below to await their arrival. A paleo-indian Darwin award winner.
A most excellent illustration of the “Rahm” technique. Superb and spot on.
On another note I spontaneously had a little chuckle for the Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump High School cheerleading squad.
