enator Barbara Boxer (D., Cal.) has been schooled in the peculiar etiquette that Jill Biden observes. As a result of her Ed.D. degree, Biden insists on being called "Dr." by sodiers who unknowingly refer to her as "Mrs. Biden. (Dr. Biden explains) "Ya know, I worked hard for that degree." Now Poliitcs Daily reports that Senator Boxer shares a similar pride in her work:
At a sometimes contentious Capitol Hill hearing Tuesday, Senate Environment and Public Works Committee chairwoman, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), had a request for Army Corps of Engineers division leader, Brigadier General Michael Walsh.
During a terse exchange, as Boxer pressed Walsh on why the levees in New Orleans are still not repaired nearly four years after Hurricane Katrina, she said to Walsh:
"Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am? It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it."
The general's response? "Yes, Senator."
It's funny in a way that Dr. Biden and Senator Boxer are so rude in the name of their professed etiquette. Surely there is a joke here somewhere.
Via Drudge.
Ph.D.s are usually scientists and dont have the god complex of most MDs. Thats why they are so much more laid back about being called Dr (even though the PhD is the higher degree). I’m just sayin.
UVa?
I think I figured this out.
“Ma’am” points out the fact that she is a female. She, being a leftist “feminist”, considers such acknowledgement of her sex to be an insult.
Seriously, I think this is why she was bothered by “Ma’am”.
Who else?
I don’t really have a problem with a Doctor asking to be called Doctor instead of “Mrs.”, so long as they do it politely, realising that the people they are talking to probably don’t know they are doctors.
Boxer should have known that the military uses “ma’am” and “sir” as honorifics. So if she was uncomfortable with it, she should have found a more polite way to ask “I know that you use “ma’am” as an honorific, but would you mind calling me Senator — I always think “ma’am” is my mother”.
She would have gotten her message across, the General would ahve called her “Senator”, and she wouldn’t have looked like an idiot.
LOL. right on the money.
Why is it libs simply don't know how to be gracious and display a little class?
Another thought. What does it say about a person that believes themselves so superior that common courtesy is beneath them?
My, my, looks like her insecurity is showing. The Brigadier General was addressing her with respect, but the silly cow has her head too far up her bum to realize that. (No disrespect to cows intended.)
Well, actually she still would have looked like an IDIOT because she is an IDIOT.
I hope she’s catching hell for this from people calling her office and emailing her.
Unfortunately, people like her dismiss criticism instead of learning from it.
Senator may be her title, but b!*%# is her sign!
“Did Boxer call him by his title Brigadier General or was it just General? After all, he earned that title!”
That’s what I want to know! But every video I’ve seen of this leaves out how she adressed him.
Our next-door neighbor is a retired professor, with a PhD in Kinesiology. Did his post-doctorate work at Harvard. He's the nicest, most humble and down-to-earth guy I've ever met. He had no qualms asking me to come over to show him how to program his DVR.
LOL!
Many people of short physical stature have a need to power over others.
I used to work for a man many years ago who was very short. He had the legs of the chairs in his office cut short, so that he in his chair, which was raised as high as it would go, would appear higher.
He also had a sofa in his office, and the legs of that sofa were completely removed so people who sat in it would appear shorter than he did.
Because I’m a tall guy, whenever I’d go into his office to ask him for something I needed to do my job, I always knelt down in front of his desk so I’d be eyeball to eyeball with him rather than towering over him. I tracked my in-office requests over a couple of years, and my requests were approved by more than a 50:1 ratio when I knelt down.
It seems bizarre to me today that I did that, but I REALLY wanted to do my job well, and the only way I could do that was by getting those requests, which usually meant spending his money, approved.
2 states that are broke, poorly run, and won’t change are California and NY. Just look at who they sent to the Senate. Hildabeast, chuck u schumer, & Boxter, diane, and nancy.
Maybe the people there are just as screwed up as who they sent to represent them.
I think MD is on a par with a PhD. PhD stands for Doctor of Philosphy and MD stands for Doctor of Medicine. I believe they are equal in status.
A few years ago, I worked in the library of a law school at a state university. One of our professors called the circulation desk, and the student who answered the phone addressed her as either “Ms.” or “Ma’am.” The student wasn’t in law school (he was in the library science program), so he had no idea who this woman was.
The professor was irate that the student had not referred to her as “Professor,” and seemed intent that we punish the student in some way. Nothing much ended up happening in the end, but the event just showed how petty and pathetic some of my co-workers truly were.
