Outspoken Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she's so worried that information from next year's national census will be abused that she will refuse to fill out anything more than the number of people in her household.

In an interview Wednesday morning with The Washington Times "America's Morning News," Mrs. Bachmann, Minnesota Republican, said the questions have become "very intricate, very personal" and she also fears ACORN, the community organizing group that came under fire for its voter registration efforts last year, will be part of the Census Bureau's door-to-door information collection efforts.

Well, that’s a nice reassurance. I’m sure I can rely upon my local ACORN representative/census taker to not “misread” the law. They do have a track record of painstaking attention to legality, you know. /s/

Those who decline to answer these questions may receive follow-up phone calls and/or visits to their homes from Census Bureau personnel, and are threatened with prosecution and fines. No person has ever been charged with a crime for refusing to answer the ACS survey, which several US Representatives have challenged as unauthorized by the census act and violative of the Right to Financial Privacy Act.

I’ve never answered these question other than how many people are in the household. This has been since 1970, and never once has there been a followup.

Ten years ago, I lived in NY state and got the long form. I told them how many people lived in my house, and how many were of voting age. That's it.

I had some oldie flunkie calling me every other night, trying to get me to redo it. I kept refusing. He asked to set up an appointment so he could personally ask me all the questions. I told him that he wasn't welcome on my property. I answered the constitutionally mandated questions, and had no interest in engaging in their unconstitutional social engineering schemes.

Finally, he got pissed off and told me that there would be trouble if I didn't comply. I hung up on him.

Ten years later, still no sign of "trouble."
