Obama throughout History
National Review ^ | June 17 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 06/20/2009 12:06:34 PM PDT by PghBaldy

On the Sack of Rome: "Any time a major urban area is plundered so quickly, it is concerning to us. We are sure the Gauls and Chieftain Brennus understand Roman worries about the utter devastation of their city."

On the Blitz: "Any time a city is bombed for 57 straight nights, we take notice. That is something that interests us. We hope all national air forces involved in this dismaying conflict behave responsibly."

On the creation of the Berlin Wall: "Any time a barrier divides people we get worried, and perhaps even chagrined. We hope all Germans can work this out amicably, and agree on construction standards and building materials going forward. We, as Americans, stand ready to observe closely."

"And that would be a bad thing because ...?"

Because it proves you don't know diddly about history, which is certainly a bad thing. It leads you to making idiotic conclusions.

When Germany declared war on the U.S. on December 11, 1941, what should have been our response? Pull an Obama on them and say how concerned we are with the situation?

Obama rhetoric is pure pish posh; he’s about as connected with the masses who yearn to breath the freedom known in our land as he is with manual labor. He’s all blow. He’s creating a new and weird form of socialism that includes all of the lofty snob dogma of the Left, the unwillingness to impose the socialism on himself, the cult of personality, his narcissism, his solipsism, and a stunning failure to realize that his charm is not going to change the world. The self-evident and empirical evidence that he’s a flop has yet to dawn on him and his supporters.

The defeat of fascism set the stage for Communist domination of much of the globe for two generations.

So what?

Didn't Germany and Italy declare war on the U.S. immediately after Pearl Harbor? You would've had FDR (and the American people) ignore that?

As it turns out, fascism and communism were both evil -- fully deservant of defeat. And they both were. Both by the US.

Why on earth would anybody express regret, or second guess, this decision?

Only thing missing is that each sentence should begin with the phrase, “As I said in my speech....”

Michele O is for the first time in her adult life proud to be an American.
For the first time in my adult life, Obama’s inaction makes me ashamed to be an American.

It was a bad post of mine. Not feeling well and short fuse. You are right. That said, a President makes foreign policy. He has sided with the Mullahs.

“The defeat of fascism set the stage for Communist domination of much of the globe for two generations.”

Sorry....but that is pure poppycock. Communism has not ‘dominated’ the globe at any time in history. Socialism(of which the fascist and the communists were both memebers) is another story.

I am here to closely observe the reaction of others to the comments of myself and Seatrout(a useless fish if there ever was). If it is determined that some have misconstrued the comments by myself, even after posting an /s/, it is my intention to engage those individuals, without preconditions, in a one on one basis, and come to a common agreement as to the ultimate meaning of this self-aggrandizing post.

I did not say "'dominated' the globe." That would imply the entire world. I said "much of the globe." There is a difference.

Communism has not even dominated ‘much’ of the globe throughout history. Sorry..but that’s just the truth. Like I said, socialism(which many of us consider communism lite) is a different story and both the fascists and the communists came from the socialist/progressive spectrum.

Of Nannies and Narcissists...

If a nanny does not exert her authority over her charges, they will run rampant over her authority, causing problems for themselves, others and the nanny !

Use your authority or you will certainly lose it.

At the time of the writing of the Constitution, WE were the third world ! Of course, isolationism made great sense ! The last thing we needed then was a war - we could not afford a war.

It’s apples then and oranges now, though. Why can’t folks understand that we are the only reason the USSR and Communist China did not plunge the world into another “dark ages” after WWII. While, if we took a break, then defeated communism, the entire world would have been free from there on out, with representative governments in all the major powers; there would have been no “rogue” oligarchies bent on being able to defeat the U.S. There would have been no cold war, and nuclear weaponry could have been effectively kept out of all arsenals except for propulsion and a very small number of warheads - if and only if the U.S. exerted it’s dominance and simply demanded adherence to these rules, under military inspections and an occasional butt-kicking.

Instead, all western countries now rely 100% on US for defense. Without us, there is nothing to stop China from taking Japan, Russia from taking western Europe, game over. These little wars would be over in less than a year if we did not participate.

The founders did not contemplate a world where Great Britain, France and Germany would be reduced to tourist destinations totally reliant on the U.S. for defense all the while they spew 19th-century communist theories and hatred of our Judeo-Christian faith.

So we never thought we would become a nanny, we’re simply in the middle of international relations. We just can’t simply ignore the rest of the world and we are the preeminent power right now, unless we keep going down the insane left-wing road and bankrupt the U.S. government before Zero’s term expires. Personally, I give us one chance in three.

We need to keep in mind that people who would enslave, torture or kill someone for being Jewish will do exactly the same to another for being Christian or even atheist. This is real, we will really be beheaded if the thugs have their way. Thugs are thugs are thugs, throughout history, and there is only one way to get and stay free of them: do battle with them and defeat them. This means war, sacrifice of some of our lives and slaughter of the enemy. The only other alternative is surrender. “We must, indeed, all hang together or most assuredly we shall all hang separately” is truer now than ever.

And the left-wing is trying every social and political tactic they can think of to undermine our ability and resolve from the inside out, through our courts, schools, media, unions, etc. They keep a slow and subtle push to make all citizens have blind allegiance only to the government and it’s leaders. As long as folks go to work every day, pay any tax asked of them, don’t dissent about anything the left-wing wants and don’t get involved in the selection of candidates inside their political party, then the political parties tightly control who is on the ballot, and the citizens can have their bourgeois lifestyle without the sufferings of conflict, in exchange for their giving up any representation in the government. Forget faith, morality, family, ancestors, heritage, history, personal property and absolute principles; just accept whatever deception is handed to us as the truth. That is the lie of the treasonous left as they prepare us for eventual “merger” with our creditor nations. They simply have to change the text and our interpretation of the “living document” of the U.S. Constitution enough to slip this by the citizens of the U.S.

Congratulations. You’ve just written the NEOcon Manifesto. Michael Ledeen, Frank Gaffney and the rest of the gang might have a cushy job for you in some think tank.

“While, if we took a break, then defeated communism, the entire world would have been free from there on out, with representative governments in all the major powers; there would have been no “rogue” oligarchies bent on being able to defeat the U.S. “

1. Where would the political support for such a misadverture have been? Outside of your imagination it wouldn’t have existed.

2. Would you really want American soldiers to follow in the footsteps of Napoleon and Hitler’s Wehrmacht; marching to their doom in the snows of Russia?

3. The USSR post-war was an existentially more powerful opponent then Nazi Germany was (and we were able to beat Germany in the West BECAUSE MOST OF THE WEHRMACHT WAS TIED DOWN IN THE EAST!!).

4. I don’t know why I’m even bothering to counter this screed. I feel like I’m pouring wine into stagnant water. It’s Father’s Day and I’ve got better things to do.

1. True, it would have to be manufactured as with most wars.
2. They both had terrible planning (summer uniforms ?) and were under the leadership of someone with delusions of grandeur and NPD (now there’s a scary thought). Given the enormous size of the USSR it’s my opinion that those two can’t even be considered credible attacks if one looks at the big picture.
3. We were able to beat Nazi Germany because they had no viable ability to invade U.S. soil, which solidified our population and manufacturing capacity advantage, so the outcome of the war was inevitable.
4. My apologies if my rant was troubling, the last thing I want to do in this day and age is trouble people any more than they already are. Don’t waste that wine... reminds me of the interesting anecdote about the restaurant in France that hid the cellar from the Nazis by building the door into a wall, actually worked.
