U.S. Navy Hangs Back in Persian Gulf as Questions Mount About Defecting Iranian Revolutionary Guard

Members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard are showing "discontent," according to the former crown prince of Iran, as the U.S. Navy sits back in "non-incident mode" in the Persian Gulf.

The U.S. Department of Defense is "on edge" over the turmoil in Iran, and has directed U.S. naval assets in the Persian Gulf to be, in layman's terms, in "non-incident mode," military officials told FOX News Monday.

Meanwhile, the former crown prince of Iran contended that members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard are showing "discontent" and some are "contemplating the contingency" of defying the regime in the wake of the Islamic Republic's disputed presidential election.

U.S. military commanders are said to have been instructed to be alert to any possibility of a clash with Iranian naval assets, and to position themselves in such a way as to diminish the ability of Iran to stage an incident, however small, that could be used to rally the support of the Iranian people to the regime and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose backers are accused of voter fraud in the national election 10 days ago.

A Defense Department official told FOX News that U.S. Central Command has sent a message to all Navy service members in the Persian Gulf region that they are "expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and to avoid any unnecessary escalation or confrontation" with Iranian ships or other military assets.

"Given the heightened sensitivities in Tehran we don't want to feed into what is already a very tense situation on their side," the official said.

Will the US Navy be allowed to help or will this be another hijacker deal where ZERO gets ice cream or plays golf, while the Navy awaits orders?

Maybe the ruling regime feels that the only way they can regain control over the people is by provoking a conflict with the US.
That's a hell of a dice roll.

The only surprise is that '0bama The Coward' hasn't ordered them to surrender yet.

The President has proven nicely that the word "courage" is not in his glossary.

If members of the Revolutionary Guard defect, it will not be because they have received encouragement from this end.

Come on folks! The POTUS is busy doing important things like taking Air Force One out to terrify New Yorkers, going out to eat and catching a Broadway show with his "lovely" wife, flying his daughter to Paris for her birthday, bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia, apologizing for America to the rest of the world, fabricating the accomplishments of the Muslim world, declaring America a Muslim country, firing people who won't cover for him (Inspectors General) and finally, spending us to smithereens.

Why would he need to get involved in something as trivial as Iran?

“hangs back...” I have a feeling that’s going to be the cornerstone of BHO’s foreign policy. The good thing is that it puts him out front and center, and the failures of such a policy are his alone. “Hanging back” has never been the American way of doing thigs,Carter being the exception.

That's a pretty accurate summary. Try telling it like that a Lib and watch his head spin.

If members of the Revolutionary Guard defect,...

Who wants them to defect? Screw that, I want them to start shooting their own officers.

Maybe the ruling regime feels that the only way they can regain control over the people is by provoking a conflict with the US.

They could close the Straits of Hormuz and then rally the country when the Americans intervene.

YIKES!!!

Thank God you aren’t in charge.

If Israel attacked Iran right now, Ahmadinejad would suddenly have the full support of the Iranian people. He would love nothing more than have The Great Satan or The Lesser Satan (Israel) attack his country. He would consider it a gift from Allah, because it would unite the fractured government like nothing else would.

Look, the objective is to overload the mullahs into doing something even dumber than they are now. Remember, they fall and a lot of terror groups fall with them.

Sooner or later, no matter what happens with this revolution, those sites need to be taken out. I am sure Israel has a better feel for what is going on in Iran than we do.

If the mullahs really crack down and start wholesale slaughter of people in the streets, it would be a good time to tip the scales. The Revolutionary Guards would bail on the mullahs in a heartbeat.

And the mullahs are already accusing the West of interfering, and that is falling on the deaf ears of the protestors.

Hit them now, hit them hard, enflame the population that they might be next. You will see the government change.
