Vote Set on House Climate Bill (Waxman-Markey, this Friday)
Washington Post ^ | June 24, 2009 | Steven Mufson

Posted on 06/23/2009 10:24:26 PM PDT by flattorney

ABSTRACT: Democratic leaders in the House have scheduled a Friday vote on a climate change bill that would establish a complex cap-and-trade system to limit the nation's greenhouse gas emissions, a priority for President Obama. The House Rules Committee unveiled the latest version of the bill, which weighs in at 1,201 pages. It features new items such as $7.5 billion in "green bonds" for a new federal financing agency called the Clean Energy Deployment Administration, extra emission allowances for politically powerful rural electric cooperatives, greater flexibility for states that want to use free allowances for mass transit, and tweaks benefiting a range of companies, including algae-based biofuel producers and major petroleum refiners. But House Republicans have attacked what they call "cap and tax" legislation, saying it would sharply raise energy costs for American consumers and ship jobs overseas. The National Republican Congressional Committee tried to tap opposition in a fundraising letter that called cap-and-trade legislation "nothing more than a tax which starts accruing the moment you flip on your light switch."

This bill I hate more than any bill that has gone through congress. To me it is the biggest waste of money that we have ever spent in the history of the United States of America!!! I mean it too...nothing even comes close to this wasted bill.

I'd love to know how many legislators have read this pile of crap. If this passes, the private sector will have to hire 87 gazillion more non-productive people for compliance.

I'd like to ask the Obama Administration to please think of the Chinese businessmen this will effect. They've been celebrating so much over your decisions this one will turn them into full fledged alcoholics from the blowout that they'll have over this one. A person can only take so much of their competition's stupidity.

My Congress critter is already on it!: (R-Jo Bonner)

Last month, I joined the rest of the Alabama House delegation in writing a letter to the chairman and ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee specifically addressing the use of renewable energy sources.

In our letter we wrote, “States like Alabama that do not meet the Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) requirement will be forced to purchase renewable fuel credits, the cost of which will inevitably be passed along to the consumer in the form of higher utility rates.

The plan only promises to further damage the national economy, and for the sake of our economic security and our environment, we need a better plan.

I can honestly say I never heard anyone claim they were not taxed enough, wished they had more government intrusion in their daily lives or had weaker job security. We must increase American energy production made by American workers, encourage greater efficiency and conservation, and promote the use of alternative fuels.

It is fair to ask why the Obama Administration wants to impose a national energy tax at a time when Americans can afford it the least.

But I think writing a letter is a waste of time. He should be shouting from the roof top on how this admin is trying to purposely destroy our country!

My email:

We, the unemployed masses whom our congress nevertheless expects to pay for the exponential expansion of government beseech you to vote against Waxman-Markey.

The American people don't want it. We don't need it. We cannot afford it. We have no JOBS. If passed, this bill may guarantee we have no HEAT either.

Greetings fellow Nebraskan. I reside over by Gretna (read your profile).

Interesting story. My brother works for NPPD. He is a shift manager at a power plant down by Lincoln. A couple of weeks ago we were talking about this issue. My brother got very animated and very angry (he is a Repub but isn't as into conservative politics as my other brother and me so it was very out of character). He said that he was told in leadership meetings that cap and trade will increase the average Nebraskan's annual electricity bill by 300-400%. He said he was gonna start writing letters to the editor and calling in to radio shows so people know what this means for the average joe.
That really opened my eyes hearing it from him cuz he knows the electricity generating business inside and out (he has worked in the industry since 1975) This thing has the potential to put the final bullet in the dying corpse of our national economy. It sure would be good to hear about it in the media (har har) before it gets ramrodded through the House of Representatives on Friday.

The sickest part of htis is that when a GOP presidnet repeals the assinine, job killing, business killing act, he’ll be accused of being ‘anti=climate’, just a President Bush was accused of, and of being ‘anti-science’ because he opposed allowing new stem cell harvesting from aborted/murdered babies. Now that the dems have got hteir claws into the minds of hte public on this giant ‘global warming/man-caused’ event which does NOT exist, they will NEVER let go despite the tremendous amount of evidence showing/proving that man is NOT to blame for the brief period of cyclical warmign that the world experienced
