ALBANY (CBS) ― The battle for control of the New York State Senate got even more bizarre Tuesday.
After talks of a power-sharing arrangement broke down, Democrats locked themselves in the Senate chamber, Republicans tried to conduct business on their own and none of the "people's business" got done.
As incredible as it may seem, pictures obtained by CBS 2 HD are of the Democratic senators who locked themselves inside their chamber so they could be "first in" for Gov. David Paterson's special session. The pictures, shot through the window of a Senate door, seem to show that it was all about taking possession of the podium.
Yonkers Sen. Andrea Stewart Cousins is seen standing there to prevent the Republicans from taking over. The move came shortly after Democrats said talks of establishing a bi-partisan operating agreement fell through because a Republican coalition insisted the Senate president be Bronx Sen. Pedro Espada.
We do not concede that Pedro Espada is the Senate president. We have offered to put aside the issues of whether the president of the Senate is Sen. [Malcolm] Smith or Sen. Espada," said Sen. Eric Schneiderman, D-Manhattan.
What happened next was equally incredible. With the Democrats in their seats, the Republicans marched in and tried to take the podium. They were rebuffed, so they held a session from the well of the chamber and passed dozens of bills by acclamation.
The odd thing was when Republican senators start the session with the pledge of allegiance. The Democrats didn't stand to participate and when one tried to stand, he was pulled down.

Member's of the Albany Police Department's Honor Guard were harassed and spit on by delegates to the New York State Democratic convention that nominated Hillary Clinton for U.S. Senate Tuesday night. The Albany Times Union reported Thursday.

The Dims pissed off a lot of people and do not see the dangers of continuing along that path.
Upstate needs its own state. STAT.
NY state is just a hare’s breath away from being Calif and we have to put up with this crap. This is what you get when you have legislators for life. I can’t wait till I’m in a position to move out of the tri-state area.
Is it really that hard to buy a sledgehammer?
Democrats will always be Democrats.
Recall a few years ago that Texas state Democrats left the state for New Mexico for weeks so there would not be a quorum to conduct business.
Decency and the rule of law means nothing to them: they KNOW they are right and the only thing that matters is that they get their way. (Sounds like their chief Obama, doesn’t it?)
DEMOCRATS today are nothing but low life Neo-Marxist trash.
New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani called on Senate candidate Hillary Clinton to apologize to members of an Albany Police honor guard who were heckled and spit on at her May 16th nominating convention, saying the perpetrators had committed an "assault" and should be arrested.
In his first comments on the spitting confrontation since it was reported last week, Giuliani told NewsMax.com:
"The calling of names is reprehensible and there should be an apology for that by the candidate and by the Democratic Party. The actual spitting should result in an arrest." The Democratic delegates reportedly taunted the American flag-carrying police officers, calling them "Nazis" and "Giuliani's Third Reich."
The mayor continued:
"I mean, spitting is an assault. I think it is. I remember my criminal law pretty well and tort law pretty well. If you spit at somebody and make contact with them, I think it's at least a misdemeanor of some kind."
The mayor, who dropped out of the Senate race against Mrs. Clinton exactly a week ago, called for the arrests and the apology on his regular Friday morning WABC radio show.
The day before his withdrawal, a report of the attack on the cops by delegates to Mrs. Clinton's convention appeared in the local section of The Albany Times Union. NewsMax.com picked up the story hours later, giving it national exposure. In New York City, only The New York Post has covered the ugly episode.
Giuliani, an ardent defender of police, seemed highly offended by the spitting attack and added:
"(The spitting assault) should have resulted technically and equitably in an arrest and at least some form of a fine or ticket. And if the persons can be indentified on tape, there's no reason why it can't happen right now
"It seems to me that Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Conservative convention, whatever -- you spit on somebody in a situation like that, where you're seeking to disgrace them or I don't know what the heck they were seeking to do, there should be consequences for that.
"And there's no question that the Democratic Party and Mrs. Clinton should apologize for that."
Worse than kids.
Got to be some brain destroying agent in New York water.
That might’ve worked 30 or 40 years ago, not now. Upstate would still be a rodent-leaning bastion. When Walsh leaves, that would leave you with 1 Republican Congressmember (the other being on Long Island) out of 12 upstate members.
New York is proving that it is what all of us thought for a great meny years.... a cesspool.
