Did Obama Say We Should Kill the Old Folks to Save Money Last Night?
Publius' Forum ^ | 6/25/09 | Warner Todd Huston

I am wondering when the euthanasia folks are going to start touting this one? I mean, it sure seemed to me as if the most caring, most civil, most intelligent president evah just said that healthcare could be cheaper if we don't give old folks and the infirm the full measure of care they now get. It appeared that Obama said we should just let them die or suffer because they aren't worth the effort. Imagine if Bush had said something like this? The left wouldn't have hesitated to call him any manner of names.

Obama said during the ABC Special on Wednesday night that a way to save healthcare costs is to abandon the sort of care that "evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve" the patient's health. He went on to say that he had personal familiarity with such a situation when his grandmother broke her hip after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Obama offered a question on the efficacy of further care for his grandmother saying, "and the question was, does she get hip replacement surgery, even though she was fragile enough they were not sure how long she would last?"

But who is it that will present the "evidence" that will "show" that further care is futile? Are we to believe that Obama expects individual doctors will make that decision in his bold new government controlled healthcare future? If he is trying to make that claim it is a flat out untruth and he knows it...

That was an interesting comment by the usurper last night. It did seem at the time that he wasn’t too tore up when the woman who raised him passed away. In fact it was probably a relief to BHO that whatever secrets she had about him went away forever.

The political elite (democrats) will not be subjected to medical rationing no matter what their age.

As to the respiratory guy, I was finally able to lay hands on our “living wills” and bring them in,so we could get sedation.

As to refusal of treatment, how do you tell a loved one she “can’t” have something she believes might help her - even when you know otherwise going in ?

Okay bottom line is this guy is an asshole.

I take care of a friend who is 99 next week. For 20 years she has been my date to the ballet, dinners and someone I talk to and visit with.

When at the ballet gala's we danced and I love her. Though she is some 60 years my senior. If you met her, you couldn't help but be infected by her humor and amazed at her energy.

2 years ago she fell and broke her hip. She had a fine surgeon and he put 4 pins in to help it heal.

Unfortunately, the pins came loose and they operated for the 2nd time and removed them. Life is great and we are thinking she is just so strong.

Unfortunately, when you open the body you risk infection. She got MRSA.

They gave her antibiotics and we watched her for 3 months. The MRSA deteriorated the ball of her femur so they cut it off. They also scraped off what was left of her infection and continued the antibiotics. That was the 3rd operation in 9 months.

For the next 3 three months she walked, using a walker, with no ball to go in her hip socket. The pain was excruciating.

Nearly one year to the day, she had her fourth operation. They opened her up looked around the bone to ensure there was no artifact infection. Seeing none they proceeded to replace her hip.

The operation took just 1 hour. Fantastic. Here we are nearly 1 1/2 years later and she is doing great. She has to use a walker but she is strong as ever.

A very high spirited woman who never let the bastards get her down and always sees the sun or waits for the rainbow.

Imagine. You are 97 you break your hip and it requires 4 operations to fix it and it works!

Glory to God and the finest surgeons and the teams he had helping him. Additionally, you would not find more caring nurses. She spent nearly 6 months in the hospital off and on.

Today she lives in “her house” with her cat. No one tells her what to do and she goes everywhere. And I mean everywhere. From Florida to Mexico. Dinners at restaurants, where she orders her own food. The Ballet and Gala's, where we dance once again. Her family visits her all the time and she goes to see them.

She is loved and valued by her family and friends.

At 99 she is truly blessed and lives a full life.

And the price tag or value of her to us and us to her?

FUBO!

Thank you, I appreciate it.

It’s also important to talk a bit about “unneccessary” medical procedures. Should they be banned ? Shouldn’t medical ethics come into play ?

‘Tain’t simple !

Yes he did (just not his family).

Just like all government healthcare programs do.

Plus if the US adopts this, where are all the foreigners going to go for healthcare? Many come here to avoid there own countries’ systems.

I suppose Brazil is an option.

Well, my experience causes me to ask “what is unneccassary”? I think that is up to the patient. If they can’t endure or they decide they are done then that is their decision.

However, we have so many amazing things we can do for people these days that I think the opposite of Euginacare, if I may call it that.

We can exted lives and deliver a qaulity of life that was unimaginable. We can deliver premature babies and they grow up with no effects that we would have expected just a few years ago.

We learn so much about how to care for humans and we deliver the spiritual nourshment they so desperately need. We stimulate their minds and excite their spirit. When you combine those gifts from God and the people in the medical field who I believe are also gifts from God, who knows what is possible.

“Obama is merely reading from the playbook that Tom Daschle started, which clearly stated that doctors in America need to follow the European model and be able to accept a “hopeless diagnosis”, especially with the elderly. They also said that old people need to “accept” the pains and problems that come with age and not necessarily to expect expensive therapies to relieve the inevitable.”

The Kenyan communist fraud is now a medical expert? IMO he’s not even qualified to be a friggin’ lawyer!

Hey liberals. 0bama basically said he would let his own grandmother lay there immobile to die.

How's that hope and change thing going?

Yup, Hillary was blabbing the same BS when she and tried shoving socialized medicine down out throats.

What a bunch of clowns...

Yes. That is what he said. Obama does have much use for old people or babies.

In his mind, Barky knows best.

Think how much money the country would save if we euthanized all those who are a drag on the economy...all the sick and unwanted and the old and less intelligent...and dissidents.

Things will be so much better when Barky gets rid of the parasites.

As far as Barky is concerned, that is all he needs to know about economics.

I am far from defending the One, but the fact is and has been that tech is going to force us to make decisions like this. How much public money are we willing to invest in prolonging the failing life of aged citizens or citizens who have no hope of recovery of a productive life? If someone can pay, it is between them and their Drs and family. If the future wages of our citizens are going to be used as collateral to borrow and pay interest on money for that purpose as we are doing now, the decisions will be made for us when the nation is officially bankrupt. Your ideology and politics will make no difference-— we will eventually have to let people die, or ‘kill them’ by withholding available care. We should be talking about standards for such decisions now, or let the decision be made for us when our money becomes worthless because we continue to demand services to be paid by our children and their children.
