Ubama would HAVE to respond overwhelmingly.

I think the greater question is.. what would happen to a president, that knew of a clear and present danger, not doing everything he could to protect this country?

If he's a DemocRAT he gets re-elected. But not to respond after an attack is simply unthinkable.

Well, damn.....thanks for the heads up, Starwise.

However, there are a couple Aegis Cruisers deployed here and several DDGs which can be deployed as far as necessary to defend.

I don't doubt that our Feckless Leader is chicken when push comes to shove but the Navy ain't.

Hmm...where to begin? In the first place, the North Koreans are technological incompetents who are lucky to hit the Pacific with their missiles and not even that all the time. Second, that I don't believe they've managed to achieve a single nuclear explosion as designed yet and it's honestly debatable whether they have at all. Third, their real effort appears to be selling the nastiest weapons they can devise (whether successful or not) to dictatorships such as Burma - yes, that's what it's called - that are mirror images in brutality.

That isn't to say they couldn't hit Hawaii if they got lucky, managed to squeeze another 10% out of a maximum range that is already mostly speculation, or...or if they got help. Not from the Iranians, who rival them in terms of incompetence, but from the Chinese or Russians, for whom this is a long-stolen technology.

Our own technology is also being hindered by political incompetence of the first order; fortunately it's advanced enough as it is to perhaps survive four years of Idiocy On The Potomac. It will NOT knock out a ballistic missile plummeting at Mach 23.

So the issue is, whose incompetence will triumph? Here's a clue:

The Obama administration's hostility to missile defense is inexplicable.

Not in the least inexplicable. They're caught in a particularly stupid posture that everything without exception that their predecessor did was wrong, and have adjusted their efforts in the two areas of their own supreme incompetence - defense and foreign policy - to reflect a child's fantasy that the opposite of an imaginary boogie-man isn't a real one. But he is, real.

Our best hope is that Kimmie is more incompetent than 0bama, which is a tall order but I think he can do it. We've come a long way from the time that "simpleton" Reagan ended the arms race by winning it.

“Anybody with me?”

Maybe, at least part way. The Norks are showmen, albeit as low grade street theater. A lot of this stuff they're doing is just chest thumping to get more “treats” from those that can be shaken down. Well, it worked in the past with the Clinton/Albright circus. Why not with the Obama/Clinton rerun?

They don't have to actually drop a nuke on HI. All they have to do is get one of their missiles to hold together long enough, and put the warhead (probably concrete ballast) into the general vicinity of the islands. It's all just a demonstration anyway. If they can pop an underground nuke (even if it's a “lab device” that couldn't be launched), at about the same time they deliver an inert warhead into the region they've got a bit more street cred than they had before

The US will quite likely cough up some fuel and food to buy them off for a bit longer, and it'll probably work....for a while.

I'm just telling you what I think is going to happen. Personally, my opinion is that it's best to ignore them entirely so that there's no reinforcement of their sociopathic behavior. If they actually did load a nuke on the missile, and really got close enough to do some damage (wouldn't be much given their low yields), the nuclear response would knock them back further than the primitive state they exist in now. Do you suppose anyone over there would notice?

God bless the US Navy ... eye of the tiger, guys and gals!

Are you hearing any military-type scuttlebutt?

Bombing N. Korea to The Stone Age would represent a move FORWARD in time.

“So how would a 49 star flag look anyway?”

We’ve already had a 49 star flag, when Alaska (Go Sarah) was admitted to the Union.
It would consist of 7 rows with 7 stars.

BTW, I understand your rhetorical question, and it’s implications, but Obama will not defend our (former) country.

I am ‘deeply troubled and deeply concerned’ that Zero is our CIC.

He's not our CIC. He's a pantywaist usurper occupying the "office" of the President. The rest of the dictators in the world have figured that out. They will be happy to strike at the U.S. with the firm knowledge that Zero is impotent to deal with them.

The USS Lake Erie has been credited with kills on the test range and we have Barking Sands Missile Test Range which "is the only range in the world where submarines, surface ships, aircraft and space vehicles can operate and be tracked simultaneously". So it's highly doubtful that anything will get through.

Last time the DPRK launched a couple years back, their missile didn't achieve orbit and splashed in the Pacific east of Japan. That was a two stage missile with liquid fuel systems and faulty spark plugs. It would take three stages and orbit to reach Hawaii and the mainland but not so sure about an Alaskan target. Either way, a Navy CG in the North Pacific would prevent an attack by a single missile (maybe more) on both sites.

Last scuttlebutt was that THAAD was to be deployed here and I thought ok.....but why let it get so close to shore when it's trajectory can be ascertained from far away.

Maybe the Army Missilemen need a little vacation and I'm all for that.

Conspiracy Theory for Today:

The Usurper wants the NKs to launch on Hawai’i. He further wants them to succeed.

He will claim that all our anti-missile efforts failed, that no more money should be spent on advanced military systems and, at the same time, the conflagration will destroy a nasty little piece of incriminating evidence that’s locked away in Hawai’i’s official records.

“Birth Certificate lost in nuclear explosion” beats “The dog ate my homework” everytime.

He could also point out that a nuclear explosion has a small carbon footprint. Just trying to help.
