National Society of Newspaper Columnists Gives Palin 'Sitting Duck' Award

By E&P Staff

Published: June 30, 2009 2:32 PM ET NEW YORK She may not have won the Vice Presidency, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin did receive a consolation prize from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC): the Sitting Duck Award.

Palin, running mate of GOP nominee John McCain, was selected for the award at the NSNC's Annual Conference, held last weekend in Ventura, Calif. She was nominated for "showing it's hard to put your best foot forward when it's in your mouth," according to the NSNC Web site. The Sitting Duck Award is given annually to the person "to whom columnists have turned in the last 12 months, when he or she is desperate for a topic and has to meet a deadline." Impeached Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich finished as the runner-up in the voting.

Palin did not appear to accept the award.

I wonder what kind of awards they give to out-of-work columnists. They better stock up.

Newspaper columnists, eh? Wonder if they’ll continue this annual event after their jobs no longer exist? They could use a little inward relection to see who are the true sittng ducks.

Roughly the sort of smirking non-news you'd expect out of Editor and Publisher, which is serving in its function as a media weathervane quite outside its original function in that is has turned, successively, left-wing, strident, arrogant, and irrelevant. If it goes broke as well it will truly have achieved its purpose.

Whatever happened to the great idea of us ‘taking down’ these leftist journalists by exposing all of their piccadillos and swiss bank accounts?

They are all so corrupted now, there are plenty of MSM ‘sitting ducks’ just waiting to be taken down a notch or two!

I’d like to see some examples of occasions when her foot was “in her mouth”. (I don’t seem to recall her saying that she had visited 57 states.)

"...showing it's hard to put your best foot forward when it's in your mouth..."

Also demonstrating that it is difficult if not impossible for a journalist to see objectively while prostrate with their lips pressed against the feet of Obama.

“it is difficult if not impossible for a journalist to see objectively while prostrate with their lips pressed against the feet of Obama.”

It ain't his feet their lips are pressed against.

Interesting that they didn’t provide any examples of her putting her foot in her mouth. If she had had a POTATO moment like Dan Quayle, they would surely be blaring it out.

A new standard for journalism: we don’t need proof; it just is because we say it is.

I wonder what kind of awards they give deaf, dumb and blind reporters who only read Braille with their left hand?
