Romney Urges Republicans to 'Stand Up' to Obama's Policies [as he extols the virtues of Romney Care]
Fox News ^ | 2009-07-01

On health care, Romney pointed to the successes of his own plan but criticized Obama's for its emphasis on a public option.

"The president's plan makes an enormous error by saying we're going to put government into the insurance business. We got everyone in Massachusetts insured and we did it without putting government into the insurance business," he said. "We said instead we're going to help people get private free enterprise kind of insurance they can buy from a number of different companies."

He said the system led to plunging premiums while offering a healthy choice of options for consumers.

"It's working well. We got 440,000 more people insured than when the plan was put in place, it costs less than 2 percent of the state budget -- it's a plan that's working, it's a good model," he said.

Spare me, you Palin-bashing jackass. You post every anti-Palin story you can find and then roll in it like a dog on a fresh turd.

Perfect response. ROTFLMAO!

Reagan defied conventional wisdom and won from right-center.

Did you vote for Reagan? I did and I did it despite the fact that he once supported abortion. There were plenty of "real conservatives" who didn't support Regan for a number of reasons. I supported him - yes it was his time. And then after he was elected I continued to support him despite the fact that he appointed O'Connor and Kennedy to the Supreme Court, raised taxes twice, supported amnesty, cut and ran in Lebanon and got sucked into the arms for hostages deal. He was still better than any alternative out there. And I always kept his words in mind as I do now...

When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn’t like it. “Compromise” was a dirty word to them and they wouldn’t face the fact that we couldn’t get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don’t get it all, some said, don’t take anything. I’d learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: ‘I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.’ If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that’s what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it.”

So... go ahead and continue to beat up on people who should be your allies. That worked so well in rallying support for Fred Thompson - NOT!.

RomneyCare is a joke, this boob trying to claim the mantle of Reagan Republican during the last election was nauseating. You mandate that individuals MUST buy a product whether they need or want it or not or face fines and punishment is NOT REMOTELY CONSERVATIVE!

And don’t even get me started on how his complete ineptitude and mishandling led to the whole “gay marriage” nonsense in the first place.

Giving up on the Pumpkin Patch? But there is a great conservative out there, Mark Sanford of... Oh wait, scratch him off.

One day the Great Pumpkin of the Conservative Movement will rise out of the pumpkin patch, and a group of Freepers will take aim and blast him/her to little pieces for being insufficiently Reaganesque. If it’s Reagan himself, he won’t stand a chance.

Amen to that, brother. I’m voting against Obama. Just like I voted against, Clinton, Mondale and Carter.

"You have it exactly backwards."

What part of, ""I'm staying home cuz he/she isn't a real conservative", simply allows the Dems to destroy America." did you not understand?

You said that McCain did not have a chance until he picked Palin. Of course not. That's why the NY Times and the DNC picked him to run against Obama.

The point that you miss is that the Democrats are destroying America, and that is happening because people stayed home on election day because McCain wasn't a conservative.

Let me simplify it for you: The choice was between a moderate RINO and a known Totalitarian, Racist Fascist. People with your point of view chose the Fascist by staying home. You need to face the facts that whoever the next Republican Presidential Candidate is, he or she is not going to be as Conservative as many of us would like. That's just the way it is. The primary system is rigged to keep the true Conservatives out.

We need to win. Do you honestly think Romney (and I am not advocating Romney, I am simply acknowledging that he is a contender) would be the same as what we have now? Honestly?

Did you vote for Reagan?

Twice.

I did and I did it despite the fact that he once supported abortion.

LIAR. Reagan never supported abortion - he signed a bill that was meant to legalize abortion in cases of rape, incest and the health of the mother (within the realm of many pro-lifers) - NOT to allow abortion on demand. Doctors abused that last case and Reagan later regretted signing the bill.

That is the problem with you RINO boosters - you re-write history to make your points.

Oh, and once again, RINOs lose when they run for president. The point is not about alienating allies. It is instead to ignore the siren call from the establishment wing of the GOP that would rather be a chronic minority party than have to accomodate all those rube social conservatives.

Yes, let's just all go vote for leftists, so long as they are staunch Republicans! /sarc

"Our country will go to hell, but it won’t be MY fault, because I stayed home!!!!!"

Actually, it will be your fault. Not voting AGAINST the Dems is the same as voting FOR the Dems.

And as for your nonsense about calling people "liberal RINO Republican looneys" on a Conservative website is less than thoughtful. I'll just assume that you forgot the Sarcasm tag.

What part of 'When the GOP runs RINOs for president, they lose' are you deliberately ignoring here?

Do you honestly think Romney (and I am not advocating Romney, I am simply acknowledging that he is a contender) would be the same as what we have now? Honestly?

Your supposition fails on a key point - there is no way Romney could have won the general, just as there was no chance for McCain until he picked Palin as a running mate (and even then, it was a long shot undone by McCain's RINO-ation on TARP).

You and your fellow RINO-boosters keep missing that key point - the trick is NOT to berate conservatives into voting for the RINO in the general - the trick is to nominate someone center-right to avoid the losing path of having a RINO atop the ticket.

Please... he signed the bill. I'm sure Romney never really loved abortion either but the guy lived in Massachusetts and made compromises I'm sure he regrets just as Reagan had to do in California.

What's your real point here? Do you want people to rove this site and harass people who are going to vote Republican, call them liars and insult them as not being conservative enough? People who do that should at least draw a check from the DNC. Otherwise they're just useful idiots.

Please... he signed the bill.

And, once again, he signed it for three specific cases. Rape, incest and the health of the mother. Three exceptions considered by many in the pro-life movement. You can lie through your teeth like many of the departed Rudy-tooters who tried to spread the same crap - but your lies don't change the underlying facts.

What's your real point here? Do you want people to rove this site and harass people who are going to vote Republican, call them liars and insult them as not being conservative enough?

I have three points - first, the GOP wins the White House when they run a conservative, not a RINO. Second, establishment pubbies generally are more comfortable being a minority party. And third, folks such as yourself rationalize your lies to try to make RINOs look more like Reagan, and that is bullcrap.
