Gannett to cut 1,400 jobs in new round of cuts
NEW YORK – Newspaper publisher Gannett Co. plans to cut 1,400 jobs in the next few weeks, about 3 percent of the work force, as it faces a prolonged slump in advertising revenue.
The majority of layoffs will come by July 9, he said.
The move follows a 10 percent cut at Gannett last year, which left the company with about 41,500 employees.
Gannett publishes USA Today, the largest newspaper by circulation in the U.S., along with dozens of other newspapers

I’m sorry to say, however, that the level of official corruption is increasing in the US. I shudder to think that if it gets ten times worse (or so), it might actually begin to approach the level of corruption in Mejico. How’s that working out for YOU, FRiend? :-)
Also, when you read this weepy little article, keep in mind that these are JOURNALISTS. They HAVE no real skills. No big loss to the country if they aren’t working.

Usually you can specify that you don't want the paper at check-in time. Otherwise you have to step over it to get out in the morning. And in that case, you DID just buy it.
The sad part is that many of the people that lose their jobs may not be in agreement with the company’s political bias.

that is a good reminder. I didn’t realize that counted as a “sale” in their accounting... I’ll begin saying NO at hte desk.
It hasn’t shown up on any of our bills.
They don’t charge the guest for the paper, but it counts as a paid copy for advertising rates.
Our local paper got busted for delivering many extra papers to all the hotels and claiming those papers as circulation. It cost them a bundle in advertiser lawsuits.
Then they wonder why advertising is down.

Good point, indeed the true wealth of America is it’s hard entreprenuial people. Mejico... you know, I think things are slowly improving. Talked Monday to a young administrator of a hotel, his father was kidnapped, a brother. He cooperted with the kidnap squad, he was rather impressed with their GPS ability to track cell phones, their professional guiding him on how to deal with the Familia... I do honestly think there are some policemen who are doing their best. Bribes are very HIGH, and so often is the case, if the criminals can’t bribe the police, they’ll bribe the Ministerio Publico, DA...or the judges. But I see a glimmer of hope, and think that there is a rising awareness in Mexico that people want things cleaned up.... Everyone says kidnappings are down from a year ago, and extorn. Where they charge you a ‘fee’ to protect you from the thugs and Zetas.

Some of our wealth surely has vanished...the other part of it is being sorely mistreated.
No, the patron pays. You can tell the desk jockey at check-in that you don't want USA Today and they'll credit your account for the cost of the newspaper. You only have to ask.

While with liberal policies and the loss of a million jobs by a socialist look like a victory since it isn't the 1.1 million jobs ... thereby there was a growth of 100,000 jobs instead of a loss of a million jobs.
