Sarah Palin, the view from 10,000 feet

The Present:

I wish those attacking Sarah and her family had to walk a mile in her shoes. She has been attacked without mercy by the liberal socialist left and the elitist RINO right. She has been besieged with petty ethics complaints. She and her family have been smeared by late night TV hosts. Never have I witness such a personal attack on a politician. And where are her defenders? Seems the GOP is just fine with Sarah, her husband and two young daughter taking the full fury of the Marxist propaganda machine. Seems the GOP is just fine with anonymous McCain sources attacking Sarah daily.

I can't understand all the confusion about her resignation, it seems pretty clear to me. She can no longer do her job as Governor of Alaska, wife and mother while being forced to spend all her time defending herself and her family from unrelenting attacks. How hard is that to understand? How would you like David Letterman joking on national television about raping your 14 year old daughter? How would your daughter like being the brunt of late night TV jokes?

Sarah feels that she has accomplish the agenda she campaigned on when running for governor. Her crowning achievement being the pipeline to bring Alaskan natural gas to the lower 48. She will leave her administration in place and perhaps with her gone they can finish whatever remains to be done without all the distraction that come with having Sarah Palin as governor. In this she is doing a final service for Alaska at no small cost to herself.

It is worth noting that the destruction of Sarah Palin governorship is perhaps the final nail in the coffin of citizen government. If a normal everyday bright person like Sarah Palin can be destroyed by the professional media/political class. We should not be surprised if normal citizens refuse to seek higher elected offices. And that might very well the lesson the professional media/political class wanted to deliver. John Q Citizen remember Sarah Palin before jumping into our shark infested waters.

The Future:

While her reasons for resigning are fairly transparent, her plans for the future are a bit less so. But once again taking her at her word it seems that she plans to spend her free time campaigning for people that share her beliefs in conservative governess. Interesting to note that she drew no distinction between Democrats or Republicans. Seems Sarah, like a lot of us sees no connection between party and principles. I see no strategic plan for being the GOP nominee in 2012. I do however see a plan to take the “values” fight to the enemy. Sarah said she was not retreating “just attacking in a different direction”. Perhaps those so enjoying her apparent downfall might pause to consider the change she could effect campaigning for other like minded politicians in 2010. Perhaps Sarah has a lesson of her own she plans to teach the professional media/political class. Certainly a fired up Sarah Palin engaging in a take no prisoners war against the ruling elites would be a sight to behold. And considering the economic disaster that the socialist Obama administration is becoming anything is possible. Considering her appeal to the grass roots of the GOP and independents anything is even more possible in 2012 should she prove to be a force in 2010.

One thing I am pretty sure of is that we have not heard the last of Sarah Palin. She plays by her own rules and she does what she thinks is right for her faith, family and country. Pretty powerful stuff in the right hands.

Things just got very interesting.

Sarah Palin had more dangerous enemies within the GOP establishment. We have met the enemy -- and it is within the Republican Party.

thanks, I wrote this BEFORE Sarah resigned, sometimes I even surprise myself

she has a real advantage, she is a principled conservative. All she really has to do is understand the issue enough to able apply her principles and explain the decision.

Her real test will be to see if she has the temperament to take this merciless bounding from the GOP self proclaimed elites and still be Sarah we all love. That is her challenge, the other stuff will be easy if she is as smart as I think she is.

She's the anti-establishment, grassroots underdog challenging the Rinocrat gang.

It's so bold, it just has to work.

I am torn by her departure, but the party fed her to the lions. bunch of rhinos need to be voted out come 2010. Palin is the new direction for those led astray by the politics of a failed party. sometimes you gotta staunch the bleeding to keep going. I believe this is what she has done here. She has staunched the bleeding, and like a bear; gone into hibernation. watch out, mama bears wake up ferociously.

I’m not sure about “destruction of Sarah Palin governorship”. I don’t know that Palin would want to have the resignation seen in that light. Truth is, if she wanted to run for President in 2012 (and there’s a good reason why she might want to do that - she’s currently drawing huge crowds, for one) she really would be putting herself at a disadvantage if she stayed governor until Jan 2011. Instead of campaigning for Conservative Republicans in 2010, drawing huge crowds to their rallies, raising money for them at fundraisers, etc, she’d be in Alaska, far away from everyone, away from TV, governing. She would get a lot of endorsements from Republicans that she helped elect. If she’s in Alaska, no help, no endorsements. Sometimes people in Iowa and New Hampshire want to see the candidate on the ground - meet em, shake their hand. As governor of Alaska, Palin would not be able to spend much time on the ground in Iowa or New Hampshire.

Ed Rollins, Huckabee’s campaign manager in ‘98, called her a “kook” on CNN after her announcement. David Gergen, CNN’s favorite RINO, chimed in with his usual critique. On their panel of four, there was no one on Lou Dobbs’s show who defended her.
If I were a Republican man running for office, I certainly wouldn’t be treating the first Republican woman ever to run on a national ticket in the derisive way these men are treating Sarah. After all, the women do most of the work in the party, and they are taking names.

The GOP would rather lose than see Sarah win...

It’s always been my contention that McCain intended to lose...And when his numbers started climbing because of Sarah, he got real nervous and started started backing Obama...

Thanks, at least someone gets it!

Not only has she NEVER been defended by the GOP, but there are many ensconced old-line Republicans who are as afraid of her style and popularity (cuz she does not fit in to the old boys mold) that they are as happy that she is/was being attacked and destroyed.

Worse yet are how many here (WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE CONSERVATIVES?) who have been quick to not only question her decisions (without knowing all the facts) but join in on the pundits from the Lame Stream Media to pronounced here "FINIS" with regards to any future.

Hows about we keep our powder dry and take a wait and see attitude

Personally, I think we are about to witness "Sarah-Unleashed" and she may very well go after some of the weaselly RINO's as much as the Demo-Rats!!!

The ones that are really pissing me off are the ones calling Sarah a quiter. Now maybe things have changed but I was taught that if you can not, for that ever reason, do your job to the best of your ability, then the honorable thing to do is resign. So in the eyes of this old fashioned 1950’s guy, she is doing the honorable thing.

The best revenge is success.

If she’s willing to fight for conservative principles I’m willing to fight for her.

As much as I love Sarah Palin, I can’t help but wonder if she has a Mark Sanford prolem...the mainstream press is spinning this as an oddball move that shows shes unstable...Mitt Romney may be the only one left standing for 2012

Where might one find some quote about doing the honorable thing and resigning when you can’t do the job for whatever reason? It seems that is a good counter argument to “quitter” .

“Mitt Romney may be the only one left standing for 2012”

Then the GOP will lose.

"Ed Rollins, Huckabee’s campaign manager in ‘98, called her a “kook” "

lol, I like "walk around money Ed Rollins" I think he is a pretty smart guy. Sarah has confounded the punits, even the good ones like Ed Rollins time and time again. She has a gift, lol, the thing to do with Sarah is to listen to what she says! She is HONEST, she tells the truth as she see it. She might not always be right but it is always easy to understand the "what" and "why" of her actions.

She might as well. In fact the RINOs are even more disgusting than the democrats in their behavior because they feign friendship then stab her in the back at every opportunity.
