Gold Rush In Alaska
Washington Post ^ | 7/8/09 | Kathleen Parker

Posted on 07/08/2009 4:56:14 AM PDT by steve-b

When you're up to your waders in barracuda, blame the media.

And quit your job.

And say you did it for the people.

And hire an agent.

And try to keep a straight face.

On your way to the bank.

Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public, H.L. Mencken once said. Terribly elitist fellow, that Mencken. If only he were alive to witness the phenomenon of Sarah Palin, whose biography validates every cynical thought that ever found expression in his prolific prose.....

Meanwhile, getting real, can we stop pretending that Palin is interested in anything other than her own ambition?

Can we also stop nodding assent every time she says the media are to blame for her self-inflicted wounds? The media invented Sarah Palin. Before the media shined their light on those no-place-like-home slippers, does anyone recall ever wondering what a governor of Alaska was up to?...

"Let's face it, she just doesn't really want to govern, and she's doing what's best for her," said a Republican campaign strategist who has worked with Palin.

"This is a win-win," said another. "It's a win for her because she is not politically viable, and now hopefully she can make a lot of money, have balance and affect culture in a positive way. It's a win for the Republican Party because she was the female version of [George W.] Bush in some ways. She is not intellectually curious. We need and have smart, competent alternatives."...

They have to report 24/7 how irrelevant Palin is. LOL!

Why she left now, is pretty obvious—too many frivolous complaints and investigations have made the job impossible. About that much, there is consensus now. But think she’s just not interested in running for President. She was quite clear about making a difference “outside” of politics. The fact is, we’re in a new media-driven world. Rush is far more influential than any official leader of the Republican party; Alec Baldwin is more influential than Obama. Sure, the Prez gets to press the buttons, but it’s the celebrities, the talking heads, who are going to tell him (or her) what button to press.

The Presidency has been nothing more than a figurehead since Clinton’s second term and that’s not going to change—ever. It wasn’t for anything he did per se, but because of fundamental changes in the way news media doesn’t just report events, but directly influences them by virtue of the 24/7 news cycle.

SP will make a much deeper mark for Alaska and the US by leaving politics and joining the new media. That’s fairly obvious too, if you ask me.

The always astute David Lee Roth once stated, “Most rock critics like Elvis Costello because most rock critics LOOK like Elvis Costello.”
I’ll change that a bit to, “Most Establishment types don’t like Sarah Palin because most Establishment types lack the charisma of Sarah Palin.”

Perfect!

The country is trending more conservative - the ratings would be outstanding.

"Let's face it, she just doesn't really want to govern, and she's doing what's best for her,"

That's the only type of governor I want!

Actually, I am starting to think that articles like this one are serving a useful purpose. They are so asinine and over-the-top stupid, that I think they are pushing the merely-stupid people in our direction.

Everybody knows by now that Mencken used to write all sorts of anti-semitic things in a series ~ A SERIES ~ of secret diaries.

Mencken was brilliant. He gouged everybody and he did it hilariously.

He severely criticized our government for not allowing Jews who were fleeing for their lives from Europe to take refuge here.

He would have loved Palin because he truly loved women in an intellectual and endearing way. Read In Defense of Women by H. L. Mencken

Alaska Gov Gives Birth to Boy Named "Trig"

Alaska governor gives birth to 5th child, a boy named Trig

The governor of Alaska, Sara Pallin, has given birth to her fifth child, a boy named Trig. No word on whether or not the baby already has a spiffy adventure hat or not.

So, yeah, I guess I was wondering...

Parker is sounding more and more deranged. Her article is a rambling contradiction

I know she hates Palin, but this peeved and disjointed attack has an obvious agenda ... for someone with a full head of hair.

Mitt is worried, hahaha.

Kathleen, get over it. She’s better-lookin’ than you. Not gonna change.

So many elitist women wish they were at least something of Sarah Palin in so many ways. They hate her because they can't be her and she makes them to know how much they suck.

She is in great company. Look what they said about Ronnie Reagan. It was long past his presidency when they found his writings, and some said mmmm, he was a thinker.
