More than 60 campers from Northeast Philadelphia were turned away from a private swim club and left to wonder if their race was the reason.
"I heard this lady, she was like, 'Uh, what are all these black kids doing here?' She's like, 'I'm scared they might do something to my child,'" said camper Dymire Baylor.
The Creative Steps Day Camp paid more than $1900 to The Valley Swim Club. The Valley Swim Club is a private club that advertises open membership. But the campers' first visit to the pool suggested otherwise.

I read this story on Drudge and found it confusing. Were these kids kicked out because they were black, or because they weren’t members of a private club?
Truthfully? I don’t care...I suspect there is more to this story than meets the eye...However, occuring in Philadelphia - I just don’t care...
And there were all these white kids with their slightly overweight moms playing at the park. Then like 20 black children with NO PARENTS ANYWHERE IN SIGHT kind of like stormed the park. They were like 20 10 years olds boys with cornrows.
Anyway, the white children looked terrified and ran to their moms. And their Moms, perhaps justifiably so, got their kids and got the hell out of there.
If the story is accurate, this is the sort of thing conservatives should condemn, loudly...private club or not.
If true, this stinks.
I am inclined to agree, especially as seeing as it comes from NBC, the antithesis of truth.
If facts warrant otherwise, I will change my opinion, but my guess is that this is NBC “creating” a story.
Not the first time they have done this.

And that’s what happens when you have the likes of Sharpton constantly “crying wolf.”
Why did they do that? (run away) from those innocent black children....that’s terrible.

They weren’t members, but they have bought the right to swim there. What I’m wondering is whether it was their behavior, more than their color, that caused this. We’ll never know, because the media will never tell the other side.
Poor choice of words, but did he mean they didn't want dark complected kids, or did he mean that they didn't want a ton of kids. If the nature of the club was adults and kids, then an influx of a whole bunch of kids of any color would definitely change the complexion of the club.
I once had a membership to a local YMCA pool where I would swim laps. Come the summer, and they started busing in poop loads of (mostly white) kids from day care centers. They sure changed the complexion of the water.
I quit. If I wanted to swim in a toilet, I could do it at home.
Hard to spin the story too much in either direction.
No matter what, the school paid for the visit or temp membership for the kids to swim, they showed up and were asked to go.
Could have been rowdy, could have exceeded lifeguard safty limits or......whatever.
It ain’t lookin’ good for the pool folks.
You don’t think private clubs should be able to exclude people because of their race?
It’s a private club. But the private club management agreed to let the kids from the day camp use the pool. The consideration was $1900.
But then the kids showed up and club members freaked. So management decided to refund the money and not let them use the pool.

The private club opened their pool to several different groups and didn't know they would get such a flood of kids all at once.
The black kids aren't the only ones that were told that there would be no more open swimming.
Everyone, regardless of color, is welcome to join the club at the regular $600 yearly fee.
If true this is, in this day and age - absolutely disgusting!
We will never know if it was their behavior. However, with 60 inner-city kids showing up at once, I would say it’s a strong possibility.
