As a first cut concerning what should be checked out, an Urban Legends site claims the AP article email is a hoax. Whether that is the case or not can be further investigated by running down the allegations in the Urban Legends site, and in the AP story email.

The letter was not only on the website, it was also in the state's Health Newsletter, Inspire Magazine, on Page 8 of the Spring 2009 edition -- "A Publication of The Foundations of Hawaii Pacific Health"

That newsletter went out to thousands of health care professionals across Hawaii a few months ago.

NOTE: Below, it says "President Barack Obama sent this official congratulatory letter, read by Congressman Abercrombie." IN THAT LETTER, it clearly says "As a beneficiary of the excellence of Kapi'olani Medical Center – the place of my birth..." I'VE NEITHER SEEN NOR HEARD OF A RETRACTION BY THE NEWSLETTER, NOR ABERCROMBIE, OF THIS ARTICLE.

On Nov. 4, Obama described to UPI of being born at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu. After this story broke, UPI evidently went and changed the name of the hosipital on their site too. Within Obama’s own family, they now have him being born at 3 hospitals.
