Buh-Bye, Walter Cronkite: He Lost the Vietnam War for U.S. on TV, Had American Blood on His Hands
debbieschlussel.com ^ | 7/17/2009 | Debbie Schlussel

I just heard the news that former CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite died. And perhaps I will be one of the few with the guts to be real and say it: I'm not sad to see this overrated liar go. Buh-bye.

Cronkite enjoyed a long and glamorous life, unlike many of our late teen and 20-something American troops against whom he editorialized on a nightly basis. They died on the killing fields of Vietnam in no small part because he contributed to the video demoralization of America and the resulting lack of commitment to help our boys win the Vietnam War.

I'm sure that Cronkite will be remembered gushingly by all of the liberal mainstream media robots whom he spawned and who idolize him (and probably many gutless idiots on the right, too). In so many ways, he is their Michael Jackson, minus the creativity and talent. In life, they already exalted Cronkite far, far beyond what he deserved and completely ignored his awful transgressions against our country.

Walter Cronkite Defeated America on TV But the man they called "The Most Trusted Man in America" was really something far different: The Most Destructive Man in America. And that is how he should be remembered. He had the blood of thousands of American men--some of them really just boys--on his hands.

Is what she says or how she says it that bothers you? Or both? Any specifics?

Thanks for your response.

I keep thinking as I get older, how much I thought when I was younger, that these journalists at the top must be the Smart People, the Truth Tellers. Otherwise, how did they make it there?

How naive I was. Now I think about Cronkite's blowing of the Tet Offensive, and people like Tom Brokaw who admit that, after Obama was elected, they really don't know anything about him.

These guys, a lot of them anyway, just ain't all that bright or curious. And don't need any integrity.

They might have a knack for broadcasting and getting ratings, but aside from that, there doesn't need to be much "there" there.

Pretty pathetic. Especially considering those six- and seven-figure salaries.

A big welcome home bro to your dad.

It is a sobering thing to realize the extent to which cultural marxists have infiltrated, corroded and contaminated EVERY major institution in this country. It is now headed by a man who is a lying crypto-marxist demagogic usurper who is the apotheosis of all that the Alinskyite Left have been hoping to install. The vital underpinnings of a civil society will be bulldozed away and a new marxist tinged smiley faced soft totalitarian tyranny erected in it’s place, if Obama is allowed to prevail.

The way in which they undermined the efforts of your dad, and me and my comrades was a harbinger of all that we see today. We must not allow them to invert the moral order and allow this lying demagogue and his corrupt Congress to succeed in thier mission to subvert our constitutional republic.

Vietnam vets are given the chance to see Macnamara and Cronkite go in the same week.

Many vets vowed to piss on their graves; I wonder if they will.

I meant every word that I wrote from the heart.

You needn't tell me that as I knew it as soon as I read it!

BTW: Have you read Dr. Mark Moyar's Triumph Forsaken? If not you really ought to get hold of a copy because this young man tells it like it was and is having great difficulty in finding suitable employment within the halls of academia because of having written it.

It appears the jackasses who populate such places don't like for their lies to be challenged!

Dr. Moyar's website is here.

Thanks for the history, Frank. The skinny I was privy to backs it up.

In Feb. 68 I was at DLI, watching the evening news with Walter Cronkite describing events that were happening in the VN Tet Offensive. He read some copy, tore off his glasses and said "What the hell is going on over there?" Didn't know what to think of it then, didn't find out much till later talking with guys who were in country at that time. Found out a lot more later when I got to DaNang.

The point is that this little episode on the evening news wasn't reporting but dramatic editorializing by the 'most trusted man in America'. Subsequent reporting followed the same biased notions Cronkite initiated and were never corrected. The same sort of bias in reporting started earlier in Ia Drang, then Tet, Hue and Khe Sanh.

I feared rocket attacks at night, MiG attacks in the air and the possibility of a sapper getting through the perimeters at DaNang but CBS and Uncle Walter on the evening news back in the World was the ultimate sapper attack, one we didn't see coming and could do little to prevent.

Thanks and you’re exactly right. I was thinking about much of what you’re describing earlier this week and I need to contact the guy that was narrowly defeated here in elections last Nov.

He was my wing commander up in Plattsburgh AFB NY years ago. A good decent conservative man by the name of Rick Goddard. He ran for Georgia congressional district in my area, he and others like him need all the help we can give him.

I hope he’s undeterred. We need to support real conservatives to hang onto what small portion of our country is still worth salvaging.

I fear though the writing is on the wall now, so I’m also reminded God is still good and in Him me and my family will find our ultimate refuge.

Don’t forget, the VC would NEVER have defeated South Vietnam alone. After their horrendous losses after the 1968 Tet Offensive, they were NEVER AGAIN a significant force in the fighting. North Viet troops infiltrating from North Vietnam replenished the ranks of dead and maimed Viet Cong. The VC WEREdefeated. I got to Vietnam after Tet, and the corpses that we searched for Intel after firefights were always NVA with paybooks and other NVA documents. The only problem we had with VC was the minsweeping that we had to do every day between the Fire Support Bases and the villes. The local VC would do that and not much else, and they didn’t do much of that.

South Vietnam lost due to a blitzkrieg from a lavishly equipped (by the Soviets and Chinese) conventional North Vietnamese Army that did not fear the US reintervening despite the pledge to do so at the Paris Accords due to the DemocRAT Congress cutting off the ARVN’s funding after Nixon’s downfall after Watergate. The Anti-war DemocRATS, led by Ted Kennedy and others seized the opportunity to pull the rug out from under the South Viets.

The US made many errors in the counterinsugency phase of the war. Despite that, it DID deal a staggering military defeat to the Communist forces, and gained time for the Viets to militarily stabilize themselves so as to resist any future aggression. It was the pusillinamity of the US Congress and the subversion of the anti-war left that forced the outcome in 1975.

I would only add this little bit of information to that not as a correction but rather as perhaps a footnote:

From at least early 1964 on the stated military objective of U.S. forces in Viet Nam was to draw the Viet Cong out into a set piece battle where they could be destroyed. This is EXACTLY what happened in battles of TET 68 and the media at home turned the greatest victory of the war into a defeat in the minds of most Americans.

Somewhere in the archives of the KGB is a file proving that Walter was a KGB asset who worked for good old uncle Joe. I hope they build a urinal on his grave so we can all give him proper respect.

Uncle Walter is like Nominee-in-waiting Sotomayor. Both proclaim themselves “wise”. And the American people unwisely must agree.

Even if there, the historians will say there is “no corroborating evidence”. They discounted all the new info on Joseph McCarthy.

Dwight D. Eisenhower also admired Cronkite and submitted to a lengthy interview for June 6, 1964.
