Jimmy Carter Leaves Church Over Treatment of Women
Politics Daily ^ | July 20, 2009 | Ria Misra

Posted on 07/20/2009 12:49:32 PM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

After more than 60 years together, Jimmy Carter has announced himself at odds with the Southern Baptist Church -- and he's decided it's time they go their separate ways. Via Feministing, the former president called the decision "unavoidable" after church leaders prohibited women from being ordained and insisted women be "subservient to their husbands." Said Carter in an essay in The Age:

At its most repugnant, the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and national laws that omit rape as a crime. But it also costs many millions of girls and women control over their own bodies and lives, and continues to deny them fair access to education, health, employment and influence within their own communities.

And, later:

The truth is that male religious leaders have had -- and still have -- an option to interpret holy teachings either to exalt or subjugate women. They have, for their own selfish ends, overwhelmingly chosen the latter. Their continuing choice provides the foundation or justification for much of the pervasive persecution and abuse of women throughout the world.

Jimmy Carter is either supremely stupid or supremely dishonest, or both. Any honest person that reads the apostle Paul’s writings in the New Testament understands that women are not to have authority over men in church worship. You can disagree, kick and scream all you like — that is just how it is. Accept it or leave the church; no one is forcing you to stay there.

‘I wed Iranian girls before execution’
By SABINA AMIDI, SPECIAL TO THE JERUSALEM POST

In a shocking and unprecedented interview, directly exposing the inhumanity of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s religious regime in Iran, a serving member of the paramilitary Basiji militia has told this reporter of his role in suppressing opposition street protests in recent weeks.

He has also detailed aspects of his earlier service in the force, including his enforced participation in the rape of young Iranian girls prior to their execution.

There are plenty out there. Seriously.

Check this interpretation out:

Lot’s wife was turned to salt, not out of punishment for disobedience, but as a monument - she’s a “pillar” after all. She didn’t turn back out of disobedience, but because she CARED so much for the people being destroyed. God turned her into a pillar of salt as a monument to her immense caring for the [sodomite] people in the city.

All huge problems amongst Southern Baptists, of course.

Who knows where this idiot goes...I thought he had been kicked out on his position on Israel a few years ago. And one time he quit teaching Sunday School because of something stupid.

Maybe he just started his own church or something...Jimmah Carter’s First Happy House of Non-Descriptive Love of Whatever You Want to Believe.

He likes the idea of stoning women who disobey their husbands. The Baptists are not religious enough for Jimmah.

Really, really laughing out loud. Yes, they should certainly interpret holy teachings according to their own opinion, everybody else does. He can do just like everyone else and start his own church, with his own teachings just like hundreds of thousands of churches do today. The problem is that Truth is Truth, it isn't a matter of opinion.

Ephesians 5:25-29 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church—

the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and national laws that omit rape as a crime.

Wrong.Submitting to Biblical authority does not lead to those kinds of actions. On the contrary, it would make any man a better husband.

However, any man who twists Scripture to justify any of that behavior, well, deserves what he gets from God for it. I have no use for ANYONE who tries to twist Scripture in an attempt to manipulate another's behavior.

Thank you, as well.

Fortunately, it’s just a poll and people appear to be waking up to the facts about this whole scam.

My argument is that since the government can’t even get Medicare and Medicaid to work, they have no business inflicting total government healthcare on us. I’d guess even my somewhat liberal relatives would have a hard time arguing that one. I’ll likely have the opportunity to test it out this weekend.

Of course, not to mention that the government has no business at all taking over healthcare. It’s not a delegated power of the federal government.

Obama is losing his support for health care thank god.
I read this morning that he will be on the news all the time now posting it. They actually said from the white house

“All Obama all the time” on the issue.
he wants it bad.
Screw him, I have been telephoning people, writing e-mails, sending links on facts, videos and everything else i can do to alert people to the true fraud that he is playing off now.

What got me was the fact that he intends on cutting 500 billion dollars from social security medicare beneficiaries namely the elderly and weak to help pay for this disgusting Nazi legislation.

Then to add insult to injury to make it mandatory that people on social security be counseled every 5 years on the programs available to them for “assisted end of life” programs in the health care bill is absolutely monstrous.

They are promoting suicide!

Then people who have dementia / Alzheimer’s are supposed to go without treatment because they won’t know?

But we have to pay for abortions ...

He is a sick sob. This is fascism, forget unconstitutional, it is criminal. Hitler didn’t even go this far and that is saying something.
