WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has irked close allies in Congress by declaring he has the right to ignore legislation on constitutional grounds after having criticized George W. Bush for doing the same.
Four senior House Democrats on Tuesday said they were "surprised" and "chagrined" by Obama's declaration in June that he doesn't have to comply with provisions in a war spending bill that puts conditions on aid provided to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
In a signing statement accompanying the $106 billion bill, Obama said he wouldn't allow the legislation to interfere with his authority as president to conduct foreign policy and negotiate with other governments. Earlier in his 6-month-old administration, Obama issued a signing statement regarding provisions in a $410 billion omnibus spending bill.

In some ways, it's W's third term.
And so it starts. His ego and arrogance will be the end of Obama. We predicted this.
The better be careful..He might decide to do a Burning of the Reichstad.
That’s just rich, he has an agenda that is very dangerous to our Constutition. But, there is an upside....No more money for these groups.
Here’s the scenario....the cap and trade episode ends up dying off in the Senate. The universal health care episode....ends up with lack of support from the blue dogs and the Senate democrats. The White House cruises through October into January....with no real agenda left.
By spring of 2010....the election period starts up and some Democrats start to find that supporting the GM/Chrysler mess was a screw-up....and the stimulus package is now an anchor that the public keeps talking about. By July, several Democrats tell the president to avoid coming to their state because he can’t help them....he can just harm them in local opinion polls.
Republicans recapture the house but still stand around 45 Senators when November’s smoke clears. Pelosi and Reid meet, and realize that the White House has no true sales message and no true leadership...just nifty speeches. They encourage him to make alot of speeches in 2011...hoping to recover his national image.
By the summer of 2012, there are a dozen Democratic senators who really don’t want this mess to continue. They avoid meeting with the White House and simply settle back to watch the entire election.
The White House takes the strategy of getting Palin high in ratings because a third of the party simply won’t support her in the long run. They win over Palin in November of 2012...and the next four years are mostly referred to as the “loser years”...with nothing remarkable accomplished (the Republicans recapture 51 senators by that point).
I sure hope so....this is horrible... this person representing a pres. is a nightmare of the enth degree, along with Reid and Pelosi. I am ready to vote EVERY dem out of office for the next 10 years unless their records really change.
