The police officer at the center of a national racial firestorm triggered by President Barack Obama told an interviewer Thursday that he had nothing to apologize for in the arrest of a black Harvard scholar, and that the president he didn't vote for should have more carefully considered his words.
The apology won't come from me, I've done nothing wrong, Sgt. James Crowley told Carl Stevens of WBZ News Radio in Boston.
A well-regarded officer who is himself an expert on racial profiling, Crowley responded to a call at the Cambridge home of Henry Louis Gates Jr. last week to investigate a report of a burglary. Confronting Gates and another man who appeared to have forced open the door of the homne, Crowley asked Gates to show him identification.
Gates at first refused and accused Crowley of racism. The professor, a close friend of Harvard alumnus Barack Obama, was charged with disorderly conduct. The charge was dropped Tuesday, and Gates has since demanded an apology from Crowley.

If I yelled at a cop after doing what that man did I’d probably have few blue ‘reminders’. I’m not a racist friend of the Presidents however...
Hmmmm....Mark Levin said Crowley did vote for Obama.
I hope this guy becomes the catalyst for more people sincerely reflecting on their votes and feelings toward -7bama. You should be free to express truth without people playing the race shield and honest people should be on the side of the police officer.
Why -7? Why that particular number?
He probably teaches the same drivel that Hussein taught and Jeremiah Wrong “preached” for so many years.
Officer Crowley's dad voted for Oidiot
I think it’s been reported that the officer has stated that his dad voted for 0bama.
the prof should have shown his ID but not let the cop in his house without a warrant. And no tirade about imaginary racism.
FUBO...
Doesn’t matter. At this point, destruction of this cop is necessary to distract the nation from health care. The media got their marching orders from 0 at the press conference. Expect the “Joe the Plumber” routine, on steroids.
That makes me wonder....I wonder if the aggressive over-reaction to the presence of the cop, the shifting of the focus of the engagement, indicates that maybe Gates was hiding something? Contraband in the home?
It looks to me Gates was hiding the other guy. Lover? Dope dealer? Conservative Republican? Nah. That last one is too far out...
Gates is totally ignoring the fact that the cop was there to PROTECT him, to prevent what appeared to be a burglary.
you know what, I am trying to look at this from the point of biew of a man in his own home, minding his own business, being asked to prove who I am. I know a lot of us who like civil liberties would be kinda pissed being asked by a cop to “prove you live here.”
The shouting of racism and the shouting of fascism might become eerily similar at some point. That’s why I said “show your ID but don’t let the cop in.” Comply but protect your right. And for goodness sake don’t go all hysterical at the cop so long as he plays within the rules - just have him wait on the porch, show him something to prove you live there, then say “have a nice day” and shut the door.
Two charges I think are really so elastic as to bring almost anyone to the station are “obstructing an investigation” and “disorderly conduct.” That said, sounds like the prof got pretty darned dirorderly - but if he did so in his own home, so be it. File a noise complaint if you want to.
And why oh why is this non story even remotely important enough for the President to make any comment on it?
Gates is an ass. I would have been in cuffs in half that time if I had gone off like that. And deserved every bit of it. I hope Gates gets hounded.
I’m not a huge fan of local cop judgement - having been tapped a couple of times —— ya/ok/maybe I deserved a little scrutiny.
In this case, the cop did what he was trained to do - and probably with a great deal of restraint. This BS of pulling a race card is just the result of a black man with small bolla. If Gates lives in a neighborhood where he doesn’t know his neighbors AND doesn’t respect the police protection, then he darn well needs to be taken down a notch. And that applies black, white, or purple.
Just cause the prof is black is no reason to grant any special privilages - when the cop sez spred ‘em, you do it.
If he was white would this President even comment?
