WASHINGTON - Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Friday said he opposed legislation moving on Capitol Hill that would allow the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, to audit the central bank's monetary policy goals. "We are more than happy to work with the GAO and open to giving them broad authority to look at various aspects of our operations, including our responses to the financial crisis, but we are worried that an audit of monetary policy would result in a reduction of the independence of the Fed," Bernanke told lawmakers at a hearing on regulatory reform on Capitol Hill.

The POS does *not* want to be scrutinized.

Sunlight is the best way to sanitize, and that scares the hell out of ol’ Ben.

Yes! That is one of the main reasons. There must be accountability! Corruption knocks at the door to those who avoid accountability. The taxpayers are entitled to this oversight!

That's ridiculous! Barney Frank did such a good job with Fannie and Freddie, I think we should give him a shot at running the Fed too.

Bernanke has most likely been told that Washington is in enough trouble due to its malfeasance, corruption, lack of oversight, and near non-existent management of the government that is supposed to work for the American citizen.....

Just for openers, exposing the WASTE AND FRAUD of the taxpayer’s money, including the squandering of Social Security and Medicare, would be enough to cause the largest anti-incumbent vote in the history of the country....

Nah. People love their Reps, it’s the other guy that has to go. Seriously, we have no level of outrage. If the last year has shown anything, it’s that we’ll put up with whatever the elites can cook up. We’re fat, dumb, and happy.

Fed was established as an independent agency to make it difficult for people like Nancy Pelosi to influence American monetary policy. How much more power would you like to give to the government?

Bernanke would be happy to give Congress more info on where the money went, Ron Paul said he didn't care.

“Which Foreigners Got the Fed’s $500,000,000,000?”

The foreign central banks got the $500,000,000,000. And the Fed received $500,000,000,000 of their money in exchange.

I find it hard to believe Ron (Dr No) Paul doesn’t care about the money.

He admits it here at the end of the clip.

Every branch of government is independent of the others, but there are also checks and balances to prevent abuse. They same needs to apply here to the federal reserve.
