MoveOn is taking on Lou Dobbs and CNN: Why is CNN promoting right-wing paranoid conspiracy theories about President Obama's birth certificate?
The fringe ideas of the so-called "birthers" have been thoroughly debunked.1 But CNN host Lou Dobbs perpetuates these myths by constantly talking about them on his shows and asserting that Obama still needs to "produce a birth certificate."
This is not responsible journalism. Our friends at Media Matters have launched a campaign calling on CNN to address its Lou Dobbs problem — but a lot of us are going to have to speak out in order to get CNN's attention. Clicking here will add your name to their petition:

The petition reads:
Dobbs' relentless promotion of outlandish conspiracy theories about President Barack Obama's birth certificate seriously damages CNN's credibility. It is time for "The Most Trusted Name in News" to prove it deserves viewers' trust. We the undersigned demand CNN address its Lou Dobbs problem in a credible manner. Numerous reporters, including CNN's own hosts, have debunked the idea that Obama wasn't really born in the U.S.2
Nevertheless, Dobbs has repeatedly claimed on both his television and radio shows that the birth certificate the president posted online more than a year ago has "some issues"3—and lashed out at "lily- livered lefties" who criticized him.
CNN's reputation is on the line. Their president, Jon Klein, has admitted that anyone who "is not convinced doesn't really have a legitimate beef"—but he has refused to correct the situation.4

This is a powerful assertion by a questionable organization. If they would stop calling names and actually take a look at the credibility of the issues and questions in connection with Obama's long-form birth certificate, they would agree with Mr. Dobbs, yes?
Just how has this "birther" question been debunked, thoroughly debunked? Can they untwist their thinking long enough to engage in an intelligent discussion? Or will they continue to shout their version of the truth as being true by fiat?

The minute a lie is being floated a good journalist detects the bullshit and then goes in for the kill, asking even more and more unrelenting questions while trapping the liar and exposing the truth. I think this is what is at work with Lou Dobbs and I think they have bitten off more than they can chew in getting on his case. It is akin to urinating in the wind. I think more and more is going to come out about former Senator Obama and this birth certificate cover up thing.

Oh, and I know what people want, but most of what you mentioned is something that gets worked out through the demands of an election. Once that election is over, there’s no more leverage for getting that stuff. It’s not going to happen.
As for the one particular part that does bear on this topic (the Constitutional requirements), that’s been answered now, and you’re not going to see anyone with any leverage to get the birth certificate since the State of Hawaii made their official announcement saying that Obama was born in Hawaii and that Obama is a natural-born American citizen.
The Constitution says that a candidate must be the following in order to qualify for the office. The candidate must ...
*be* 35 years or older
*be* a resident 14 years or more
*be* a natural born citizen
And Obama has sworn under oath that he *is* (as the Constitution says he must *be*)...
It does not say what is necessary to show it, prove it or what any means for “vetting” is. That’s up to the states themselves to vet and make sure that the candidates meet the qualifications.
And what they have done is sworn an oath that they are qualified..., Obama has, the other candidates have and they have in the past...
