BIRMINGHAM, AL (WSFA) - A car bomb detonated late Wednesday evening near Birmingham. WSFA 12 News' sister station WBRC Fox 6 confirms the explosion in Walker County.
Information is limited at this time, but WBRC is setting up a live feed for continued coverage.
The explosion happened in the Parrish community of Walker County. A victim was taken to UAB Hospital with serious injuries according to a hospital spokesperson.
The victim's name is not being released, but sources confirm it was a male.
The Walker County Sheriff's Department, The Parrish Fire and Police departments as well as the State Fire Marshall are on the scene. We're also told the ATF and FBI are enroute to the scene.
Neither a motive nor suspects were immediately known.
Reminds me of the Mormon bombing murders some time back in Utah. Anyone remember that?
How many government agencies need to respond to a car explosion involving 1 injury?
How do we know this wasn’t just some idiot who tried using a jug of gasoline as starter fluid, or used a lighter to see what was wrong with gas tank.
What’s next? Suicide bombings in Dearborn, Michigan?
Reminds me of the riding mower bombing, also in Walker County, a few years ago.
There was one up in Arkansas near Memphis a few months ago. That one involved a doctor.
Most of them. It keeps them in overtime and out of harm's way.
It's also instructive to our Nation's enemies, and patriots take notice as well.

Obama will be apologizing to the world tomorrow for the global warming effects of this bomb.
The Walker County Sheriff's Department
The Parrish Fire
The Parrish Police department
State Fire Marshall
The ATF
The FBI
Are we missing anyone?
I hope they at least called the paramedics for the injured guy.
Thanks for posting this, missed the news tonight. Have friends in that area.
Meth lab?
Sounds like a simple gangland execution to me. Nothing to see here, let’s move along.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
or used a lighter to see what was wrong with gas tank.
I have a clip from a refinery safety video that shows a guy on a surveillance camera doing that with a gasoline tanker, with the obviously uncomfortable results (bang, fire everywhere, obligatory human torch being put out)...
The dude is actually on the tanker and you see him pull the lighter out of his pocket to illuminate in the open top hatch with enough time to formulate that "this isn't going to have a productive ending" thought.

That was a bizzare case. Parrish is in the middle of no where. I too wonder about all the hub bub for this incident. Job justification?
Most likely.
Check the FBi ststs for bombing and arson. Much more going on than most folks realize
We had a car bombing in my neighborhood a couple of years ago
Drug/turf related.
It’s only going to get worse.
Looks almost standard to me.
You need the fire department to put out the fire - one truck and a crew of 4.
You need the Sheriff department to secure the scene. Direct traffic. Arrest any perps. Write up the motor vehicle report.
Don’t know why you also need the Police. Perhaps it was in a dual coverage area.
Now getting the State Fire Marshall on the scene. WOW.
Getting ATF and FBI their too. WOW.
Ping me when they send in FEMA.
That’s the one.
The fire department would have had more than one truck and 4 firefighters on scene
The police would have jurisdiction if it’s within the town limits and the Sheriff would be there as mutual aid.
Also expect a state trooper or two to be there as well.
Because it was an explosion the State Fire Marshal would respond.
I dunno why the ATF or FBI would be involved other than they have better trained experts and labs for the forensics involved.
Naw.
Did that for 5 years.
You don’t need more than a single pumper to take care of a car fire.
You would have the driver, the officer, the nozzle man, and one or two guys to pull hose.
Typically we would have one police car, and then perhaps the a state trooper if we were on or close to the highway.
If the chief was on duty, he might show up in his car.
I suppose it depends on the city.
I’ve seen as many as three including a truck company respond to a car fire before.
And if it’s a volunteer department something like that would usually get more than one engine.
One serious injury and that’s it?
Makes me wonder if we might have a bomber who suffered from premature detonation and blew himself up.
A bomb makes it whole different set of Alphabet people.
Well... I guess you are right.
We were volunteer.
So while we would only roll one engine to the scene, we would have any number of additional volunteers show up to the station to wait out the call.
So in terms of lost manpower, it cost a lot more.
We could have anywhere from 5 to 20 volunteers at a station.
If you wanted to roll, you had to be quick !
Around here the volunteers show up at the scene in their POV’s while one or two drive the engines to the scene.
They strongly discouraged that practice. We were supposed to report to the station.
Although it the scene was on the way to the station... and you pick which station you go to... :)
