I did not present it as science or fact but as rhetoric to make a point. However, if you were to go back and apply the mortality rates associated with the diseases that we have been vaccinating for since Edward Jenner came up the “cowpox” vaccine in 1796 I would be willing to bet that something close to 90 percent of us would not be here today. But whether it is 90 percent or 50 percent it would translate into tens of millions — if not billions — over the course of 200 years not having ever been born. And thus, the majority of those who protest and refuse to vaccine would not even be here.

That's not an unexpected result for any medical treatment.

There were approximately 40 million flu vaccinations administered in 1976, with 500 cases of Guillian Barre Syndrome and 25 deaths attributed to the 1976 flu vaccine. That equates to 0.00125% adverse reactions causing GBS, and a mortality incidence of 0.0000625%. The notable issue in 1976 was only 200 reported cases of the flu.

There were 218,035,164 people in the US in 1976. If there were only 200 cases of flu in 1976, and we assume that all 200 cases came from the 178,035,164 people who did not receive one of the 40 million vaccines, I like the unvaccinated odds a lot better.

Agree with your Mike Wallace caveat. I got the swine flu vaccine in 1976, along with probably 50 people in my circle of acquaintances; and none of us had an adverse reaction. For whatever that info is worth.

Now I am wondering if antibodies I developed from that vaccine might offer even the slightest "protection" from this version of the swine flu.

I put NOTHING into my body that is not needed.

As long as the "needed" or "not needed" is based on solid scientific evidence, as opposed to anecdote, theory, quackery or emotions, that sounds like a rational decision.

There have already been more 2009 deaths from the swine flu than there were total reported cases of swine flu in 1976. The deaths are occurring in the predominantly healthy population, as opposed to the elderly, and this has occurred during the "off" season for flu.

Comparing the odds that 2009 will resemble 1976 is silly.

I have heard there may be some immunity for the senior population, but haven't heard the potential source of the immunity to date.

I worked for a company that was on the receiving end of a Mike Wallace hit piece. Sixty Minutes reserves sole rights for editing. This means they splice and dice audio/video footage to suit their agenda. I had suspected as much, but was appalled at how they altered the context of an interview response with their edits.
