JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBS) ―Jersey city looked more like a war zone early Thursday morning.
In the hours since the deadly shootout that injured five police officers doctors have been working furiously to save the lives of the two most critically hurt.
The gunfight erupted just before dawn Thursday during a police stakeout in Jersey City.
Officers were tracking the two people seen in a surveillance video robbing and shooting a man last month.
But they said the suspects -- Hassan Shakur and Amanda Anderson -- were ready for them and armed with lethal firepower.

Just pass laws. Those always work.
This isn't a gun control problem. This is a problem with poor police tactics and command. Why did they let these officers walk into such a dangerous situation? In a month they didn't have plenty of opportunity to take these guys down without a gun battle like this?

And if gun free zones really worked, schools would be bastions of safety. Instead, the opposite is true.

How can you be afraid of your own rights Chief? Those rights are the very thing you and yours swore with an oath to defend. The NRA is also trying to protect those rights.
Criminals need to be taken down and that is what your brave officers did. Thank God they were willing. But the answer is not to be afraid of, or take every law abiding citizen's rights away because of the crinimnal actions of a few.
The answer is for those few to pay the price, the high price, up front and visible. And these did. They will never do it again.
But, even in your emotion, do not criminalize the law abiding. And I will say this directly, DO NOT THINK OF TAKING OUR RIGHTS in an attempt to forestall a few thugs.
The thugs will not obey you no matter what you do...and you do not want the law abiding to be pitted as the enemy. You definitely do not want that.

They probably have a boilerplate paragraph that they use for every shooting story. Sounds like the police chief is an idiot as well. Not to denigrate the “boys in blue”, but if I’m “staking out” two people that are suspected of having shot and killed during armed robberies, they aren’t going to have the opportunity to raise the muzzle of the shotgun in my direction, let alone shoot 4 of my friends.
Seems like a very stupid thing to say after getting your men shot up. Start screaming about guns on the streets so maybe you can deflect attention from the piss poor job you are doing
