It is even more distressing that the administration, legally speaking, may be right. The American spectator is nothing more than fish wrap at best.

Oklahoma can say NO to the feds. I suspect that Texas and Missouri will back up the Okies!
Oklahoma should refuse to send the fed any tax collections.
The government gives. And the government can take away.
Federal coercion always involves withholding money.......

Incrementally, the desire of a state to one thing in opposition to the feds' desire versus the loss of all federal funds is a huge threat. However, what if a state bundled every regulation, mandate and program dealing with the feds and compared all of their excess costs versus the loss of all federal aid at once? The total cost of the feds' rules might be much greater than the total federal aid. In that case it would be better for the state to give the finger to the federal government and play by its own rules.

This couldn't have anything to do with the fact that all counties in OK voted Republican in the last election, would it?
I guess this falls under the same rule as the commiebama crowd trying to gag the GOP Senatorial candidate in Arizona by threatening the Governor with bailout funds.
They need to tell the DOJ to kiss their collective a$$e$.

The Tulsa World reports that the wording of the proposed constitutional amendment has been changed since King's letter to Edmondson and that as a consequence of the change the Department of Justice no longer considers it to violate the Civil Rights Act of 1964. According to polling produced by Newt Gingrich, Americans favor making English the official language by a massive majority, something approaching 90% if I recall correctly. This is a godsend to the Republican party by a ham-fisted Department of Justice.
Newt Gingrich knows how to run with the issue,in fact he has already advocated doing so, let's see if Michael Steele can make anything of it. I ask again as I have asked countless times in these threads, who should be the chairman of the Republican National Committee?

Obama DOJ Threatened Oklahoma Over English-Only Vote The common sense approach to the de facto language of both Oklahoma and the United States of America is the language of the laws. What possible reason is there for any other position?
This position does not mandate that one must be able to read the language. However, persons who decide to not learn the language is not a reason for the law to accommodate them.

Oklahoma should shut down all the Fed facilities in the state...if the Feds deny Fed funding.

"This would mean that such people, LEPs, have not only a federal right not to learn English but a right to have government services provided to them in languages other than English."Perhaps, and I only say "perhaps," this is correct if and only if the language these LEPs speak was spoken in this land more than 600 years ago...

I think it is a civil right to speak whatever language you want. However, that doesn't mean governmental agencies, schools, and businesses have to cater to you.
Like freedom of speech. It doesn't guarantee anyone will listen.
