Nicholas Cage taken to court over massive tax bill

London (PTI): Hollywood star Nicolas Cage has been dragged to court by US tax officials who have demanded that the actor pay up a massive USD 6.2 million of overdue taxes.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officials have filed a case in a court in Louisiana accusing him of failing to keep up with his taxes in 2007.

The actor, who won an Academy award for his leading role in 'Leaving Las Vegas', is trying to sell his home in Louisiana to recoup the cash, Contactmusic reported.

This is not the first time that the 'Ghost Rider' star has messed up with his taxes. He had to pay interest and penalties back in September 2008, following allegations of improperly deducted personal expenses.

I guess it time for Nick to crank out more schlock films like “The Weatherman”. Was there even a point to that movie? Tragically, I’ll never get that 2 hours of my life back.

I gotta' find a way not to pay $6,200,00.00 worth of taxes yet have the government remain totally cool about it.
Perhaps I should get a SAG card to do the trick?

One would think that a movie star could hire a competent accountant.

You're right. If I could get the government to let me run up even half that tax bill, say 3.1 mil... At what me and the Mrs. make (filing jointly you see) -- we'd never pay taxes again.

Seriously though, time for Mr. Cage to find a new accountant. How do these people make these kinds of mistakes? I mean, our joint return is probably in the neighborhood of 120k and we use an accountant. Somebody making Cage's kind of coin? He should be using a very serious accounting firm. This smacks of intentionally trying to avoid taxes - in a shady way. Wonder if obama would say Mr. Cage has been "acting stupidly" ???

Typical leftweing moonbat. Expects everyone else to pay more taxes to support deadbeats but himself.

FWIW, I think he’s a very good actor, but he sure picks some terrible movies to star in.

“You broke out...let me see if I can get this straight...you went down the incinerator chute, on the mine car, through the tunnels to the power plant, under the steam engine—that was really cool, by the way—and into the cistern through the intake pipe...But—ahem-hem!—how in the name of Zeus’ BUTTHOLE did you get out of your cell?! I only ask because in our current situation, well, it could prove to be useful information. Maybe!”

I bet doing his taxes is a nightmare. He might work in a dozen states during one tax year and he owns several properties in different states. I bet he has different investments and there's a gray area on job related expenses that is subject to interpretation.

Yeah, but it’s really very easy when you use TurboTax.

I've never heard Cage expound politically, but I don't pay much attention to Hollywood political views, either.

It's always been one of those little oddities of life that Hollywood actors who have so much trouble with the government over taxes are so socialist. Willie Nelson got his house repossessed once, but never seemed to make the connection that the tax codes and massive government spending is why his taxes are so high.

Yeah, but if he can earn enough to owe 6.2 million, he can at least shell out a few thousand for a decent accountant. I've got one myself. Heck, he could probably write-off a pile of money in work related expenses. Now that's NOT going to happen.
