I think a better indication would be with how Salon dealt with President Bush's military service. They tried and convicted him even after the Bush Guard documents were proved forgeries.

Only an idiot would quote Salon.com.

I can't speak to that. I'm not actually a subscriber to their site and didn't read that series. I only see articles that are passed along to me.

That being said - I think birthers to truthers is a fairly apt comparison. The vast majority of birthers appear to be republican - The vast majority of truthers appear to be democrats - in both cases the vast majority of people don't think either group knows what they are talking about. Salon seems to hold both groups in equal contempt from what I've seen.

Coulter surprised me too.

As for Ted Baxter, well I don’t give much thought to his moronic opinions.

If he would just stick to hassling corrupt judges & politicians, he’d be bearable.

Al Franken was selected, not elected.

There was an inconsistent standard applied to the ballots of the two candidates. The courts and panel stole the election. For reals.

I think that she wants to pick her battles.

And I don’t allege that his has a foreign birth certificate.

I do point out that he has not produced a birth certificate, despite the lies of the mediaheads who say that a COLB is a birth certificate (they now acknowledge it isn’t).

Trust me isn’t in my vocabulary when it comes to politicians. He’s already renegging on his promise to not raise taxes on anyone earning under $250,000.

Release the Birth Certificate. Transparency and all that jazz.

I am absolutely positive that Obama has lied and covered up his past, with the aid of the mainstream media.

However, I really don’t see the evidence that he was born in Kenya. And the posts who claim to know the difference between citizen and natural-born citizen really don’t know what they’re talking about. The best that they can do is point to a dissenting opinion in the Wong Kim Ark case.

While there certainly are questions, like the school enrollment form that lists his citizenship as Indonesian, the media has already limited this discussion to “birthers.”

Obama’s poll numbers are falling. People are mad as hell about socialized healthcare. They don’t think that he has done a good job with the economy.

By pursuing birtherism, we have already let the Dems and media define the battleground for us. Obama is not weak on this issue. I’m as much of a constitutionalist as anyone on FR, but we have to pick the battles where we have an advantage.

We’re not going to get anywhere with the idea that he was born outside of the United States, regardless of where he was born. I don’t care whether you like what I just wrote, it’s a fact. We will, however, get a lot of traction on hot-button issues like socialized medicine, taxes, cap and trade, the failed stimulus, and out-of-control spending.

-- Ann Coulter, on the other hand, really surprises me. --

I see it as equal opportunity bombast on her part. It may be that she hasn't considered the fact that Obama has dual citizenship; and just goes along with "born on US soil, good to go" because that's been black-letter law for over 100 years.

I don’t know the details, but based on what I have seen and read this would certainly be plausible. In blue states, analogous to baseball in which the ‘tie goes to the runner’, in close elections the nod goes to the democrat.

Good insight! They’re protecting their ass with the powers that be. BOR thinks his rating are so high, that he is king of the air waves, but they are threatening to take that away — so the ratings then becomes his weak spot. Anne needs the MSM to sell her books. She was threaten to be banned before on NBC. If health care goes through it will embolden Obama. And there will be change...

“IF OBAMA HAD A BIRTH CERTIFICATE WE WOULD HAVE SEEN IT BY NOW!”
******************

No, not necessarily so–IMO, I think hussein is in a position to produce any document he chooses and that it would be far from conclusively challenged!
Just a game he’s playing, and sure to win on his terms, regardless of where/when he may have been born, etc.

Hardly a surprise, AC is a Slick Willardbot. She jumped the shark as a Conservative.

Even if it has nothing to do with the eligibility issue, I think it’s clear that he has lied about something fundamental in his “compelling biography.”

Yes, he's lied about a bunch of things. Being born in Hawaii is not one of them.

Unfortunately, by conflating the two issues (his eligibility and lack of disclosure), the Birther loons taint those of us with legitimate questions about his biography and lack of transparency.
