WASHINGTON - Republican Senator John McCain says North Korea was attempting to use former President Bill Clintons visit for propaganda purposes and enhance the prestige of Pyongyang.
In an interview with Reuters, McCain said the Obama administration should resist any temptation to engage in direct talks with the North Koreans but instead should push North Korea to rejoin stalled six-party negotiations over its nuclear program.
The six-party talks include the United States and North and South Korea, China, Russia and Japan.
McCain, the Republican candidate in last years presidential election won by Barack Obama, said he believes all Americans appreciate Clintons role in securing the release of two American journalists and sparing them from the worst gulag in the world, with conditions that would make Stalin blush.
The question is, will this signal a change in North Korean behavior? McCain said, recalling that a visit by former President Jimmy Carter to North Korean in 1994 led to hopes for a change but did not produce lasting progress.

Duh!!!
Really? Wow, thanks for the update Mr. Obvious! I think there is an opening on the Bob and Tom Show for you.
Clinton probably reminded the North Koreans how his Chinagate dealings helped them improve their missile systems as well as Red China’s. The ChiComs surely passed along some of the transferred technology to them.
I have a sneaking suspicion that North Korean missiles just became a bit more functional.
Hey mccain, your moment in the sun is over. The next election will send you back home to sedona and you can write a book or something. Just shut up and limit the damage. JAFR. Just another rino.
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while....
No, surely not. Surely the North Koreans didn’t play the Obamoids for naive suckers. Surely not.
Yeah, if anyone can get a missile on target it’s Bubba.
To quote Foghorn Leghorn... “That boy, I say that boy, is about as sharp as a cue ball!”
The only mystery is were the girls stupid or pawns. Seems like a lot of people are walking near borders and ‘getting lost’.
spoken by the guy who went to Vietnam to play Huggie Bear with his former torturers
leaving his buddies behind who never came home from Vietnamese POW camps and remain MIA
I don’t like McCain, I have never liked McCain and never will like McCain.
I don’t like his fat big mouthed daughter and I didn’t vote for him, I voted for Palin and against the white hating black bug. I hope he’s voted out this year and that he simply fades from political memory.
BUT, you are on ground that you think twice about screwing with. Leave his Nam service alone, period.
Bill Clinton done good and got those two girls out of a commie hell. I salute him and thank him.
parsy.
I don't know if silverleaf here is questioning his service in Vietnam, as I do remember some Freepers talking about McCain's later actions while in Congress regarding investigations into the status of POWs and MIAs supposedly left behind in Vietnam.
Seeing as I don't know enough to properly discuss the subject, I've pinged a few other Freepers who I think might know more.
